I've read various threads about the EGR valve or belt pulley problems but I'm not sure if they are what I am experiencing.
My JTD was fine when I bought it second hand ( it's really low mileage - 21k on 03 plate) but after 6 months started to sound like an old style diesel when cold. It used to disappear if you increased the idle speed or when it had warmed up but now it takes longer.

An ideas appreciated ?

A good engine oil can stop pretty much all of the start-up clatter. They're great engines so never use cheap oil :shakehead:

You might have a worn/loose engine mount (seen sticky at top?)

crank shaft pulley on the way out probably, although it is strange at such low mileage.
Also changing the oil quietens them down a bit.

Thanks for the responses.
It's due a service soon so I'll see how the oil change affects things before going further. The sound isn't the metallic type people talk about with the aux pulley and mount problems more a chatter through the glovebox !

Anyway, I'll persevere as after owning an 500 project, Uno Turbo and Tipo Sedicivalvole I'm obviously hooked into the cause. The 20v turbo coupe took a nose dive when I found out twins were on the way - b**ger.

But the Stilo does the job well and with the skyroof open makes me feel like I could be on my 748 even when I'm not.
