Hi Guys, I was just on the Autotrader website, looking at stilo's and came across an Abarth which it says in the description that it ahs a DVD player.I thought that it was not possible to fit one to the connect nav +.

Any thoughts?

Maybe it was an aftermarket DVD player, not attached directly to the Nav+?! What did the ad say?

Btw, in the Ulysse, which also have Nav+ but made by a different manufacturer, the A/V ports are in the glovebox, and the screen can then be used for a variety of purposes.

you can fit a DVD to the SatNav unit, I looked at one when my multi loader packed up, you need a "decoder" thats what the chap in the shop called it anyway. It cost about £45. the problem is the display is only 256 colours so picture quality will be pants

Hmmm..... I'm getting some pressure from "'er indoors" to fit DVD to my stilo. Maybe you could give me some info ?

Which unit were you going to fit, and have you gat any more detail about the "decoder" ?

Which shop did you go to ?

Cheers

HI there pongo, sorry I've not been on line for ages. It was a while ago that I looked at doing this. I'll pull the info out and post it up for you asap. It was a single DIN DVD unit and I'm sure that the decoder was pioneer but I'll try and get model and part numbers for you.

Cheers for that, Mike. I'll look forward to the info !

When you say music DVD's bare in mind that if you mean the DVD-audio format, you would need a player that is DVD-audio compliant. I don't know of any in car units that are DVD-a or SACD compliant yet. If you just mean DVD's with music video's on, that would obviously not be a problem, but then if the screen quality is crap, is there any benefit over a CD player.

I don't understand the need for a decoder. All DVD players have a built in hardware decoder, actually some crap one's use a software decoder, to enable them to decode the DVD, enabling playback. They then output the decoded signal. The usual exceptions are, firstly PC DVD players, which usually use software decoders on the PC, although separate hardware decoders, like the Hollywood MPEG decoder card can be used. The other common exception is home DVD players without built in surround sound decoders which require a separate decoder/amplifier, if surround is required. If an in-car DVD player requires a separate decoder it should be sold as a package, otherwise the DVD player can't be sold alone, because it is considered unfit for the purpose for which it was built. As far as needing a decoder specificly for use with the Satnav+ screen is concerned, it wouldn't be a decoder, it may, however, need a converter, to convert the signal output by the DVD into same format that the Satnav+ screen recieves from the Satnav+ unit.
