Hi guys , newbie Fiat owner here.
I've had my Stilo now for about a month & all was well until the clock hit 58465. Now when this 'magic' number is reached, the trip computer resets & the mileage goes back to 58068. It will then go up again quite merrily until the dreaded no. again & then reset. I know it's not the end of the world but it's bugging me.
Any ideas would be most appreciated !

I know ! :) I'll have to ditch the old MOT's though as I might have less mileage on it from 1 year to the next though (y)

I've got all the old MOT's from day 1. Last one was July 08 & showed 55K on the clock. I bought the car end Nov. with 57K on it.
Thanks for the link though Davren - I'll look into it.
Assuming it is the ECU - is that expensive to fix ?

I was of the opinion that the dash node can become damaged when someone tries to reset the service counter with non-compatible equipment (even when successful)

I believe you only need a new dash node and not a new ECU

The mileage is stored in a 74HC12 micro within the dash node. So yes you do not need to replace the ECU, just the dash node as argo said.

Someone who I know does dash stuff said that when the mileage is changed a checksum needs to be re-calculated before the data is rewritten to the eeprom in the micro - if this isnt done correctly what you are experiencing happens.

Thanks guys for your wise words.
Dan , what does that mean in words that I can understand (a non-techie type) & any ideas what it'll cost me to get fixed ?

We have had this on two cars that we have sold, both times only highlighted after a few thousand miles, both times we checked the engine ecu and got the correct mileage from this, both times replacing the instrument cluster corrected this fault. Both cars had been serviced outside the dealer network.

According to the stamps , all previous services were done at a Fiat dealership  but thanks anyway - it looks like a new instrument cluster it is then !
