just wondered if any owners or people who have driven a 150 stilo sporting jtd could give me any idea of how good a car they are...handling...gadgets, reliability, pulling/power etc. ??

Hey, I just got mine on saturday! power is excellent. but coming from an MG ZS, the handling isnt brilliant. It rolls quite abit. Hopefully I'll get used to it, otherwise I'll be looking into getting some performance springs.
As for gadgets, its the usual, electric pack, air con, radio controls, trip computer, cruise control etc.

Edit: just thought i'd put a pic of her up!

Dad owned one. Really is quick, but not the best around corners. Good reliability. Good car all round. As its the sporting version it doesnt have alot of gadgets tbh, my dynamic has alot more but that is obv :D.

Any you recommend? I keep hearing eibach, but i cant seem to find anywhere to buy them! do they not have an english website? and i assume i'd need shocks as well as just the springs?

i test drove one, went to buy it and it went.... only for it to turn up on the forum!

i would have had it too but after my rear bushes failed on my 1.2 i didnt have time to look for another and got a bravo 150t-jet sport which sounds nicer as its a petrol

Commenting on the engine.... it's not as refined as the 5 cylinder JTD due to the sheer amount of power it's putting out per litre, can sound a bit um... harsh when you really throttle it, but then you're doing 90 something and you remember to ease off.

Dual carriageway and motorways are effortless, cruise along at whatever speed you settle on and if you need to overtake or go up big hills just push the 'noise' pedal and you're there. No need to go anywhere near the gearbox. Motorway speeds are almost silent from the engine, makes long distances very comfortable.

With 6 speeds the B roads are pretty easy, 4th and 5th will do for all but the tightest corner.

That's ideal but whatever you do never fit cheap springs on there own as that will very likely degrade the cars handling.

I'm sure you've noticed the Stilo's real strength is on very fast curves and is at it's worst on lower speed fast direction changes (when the weight gets transferred to the front) - so best to keep it that way

I think the car you tried must have had an exhaust problem or something cause mine is anything but harsh or noisy at any speed.

Accelerating hard in say 2nd/3rd gives off a certain noise in the Bravo. Sounds the same on the Croma 150 multijet. The 5 cylinder version is a much smoother noise. Maybe that's why I notice it coming from a marea 5 cylinder.

I am sure someone will correct me if Im wrong but it is the Stilo the opinion is wanted about.

It might be the same engine but I dont think I would be buying a car on how the engine drove in another body. But apart from that if one can be bought at a decent price I like them that much I would buy another ( nearly did but at 18,500miles slipping clutch and a good bit smoke, no chance).

I wouldn't buy one based purely on what someone said about the engine in a different model, but the information is just as valid. My first encounter with the 16v 1.9 multijet was in an Alfa 159 sportwagon... very different to the Bravo and the Stilo but how the engine was in the Alfa is the same as how it is in the Bravo.

i bought mine mainly for the engine.find it hard to even hear the engine when cruising at speed which can catch you out if you dont peek at speedo, theres a slight growl when accelerating same as any car, wasnt sure about tappy noise at idle but first diesel for me and dont notice it now.40mpg spirited 55mpg tootle.ive got eibach springs on std dampers no problems so far.overall im happy with it and will keep it for a good few years yet.(y)and wont go back to petrol:yuck:
p.s. if you test drive one at least 3 of us have smoke on start up in colder weather.
