I ordered an H rated Dunlop SP200 to go on my Stilo today with etyres, when they left I noticed thay have fitted the correct tyre put it is an V rated tyre.

Is this legal to have 3 H rated and one V on the car? Is it safe or is thsi reason to complain?

Thanks

Re: New tyre - speed rating

H is 130 mph speed rated whereas V is 149 mph so it's OK.

Your only reason to complain would be if they've charged you extra for V rated when you'd actualy asked for H rated.

Dave.

Re: New tyre - speed rating

I personally wouldn't like to have 'V' and 'H' rated mixed on the same axle as there will be small differences in handling.

There are far greater differences in tyres than many people realize. For example, the P6000 comes in 3 different variants and that's before you even consider the speed rating.

Re: New tyre - speed rating

I am beginning to think that too. I have not been supplied with what I ordered. I wanted and H they fitted a V.

At no time did the fitter say I have fitted a V, it wasn't even mentioned!

When I phoned them they said it is legal and a higher spec tyre so I took that.

Checked webite, not financial obviously, but pricipal the V tyre is £1.40 less than the H I paid for.

Have now emailed the quote from Michelin site as it says always put different speed rated tyres on rear if you have to mix!!! Well I din't have to mis until they supplied the incorrect tyre!

Would you pursue H replacement or should I not bother pushing too much?

Thanks

Re: New tyre - speed rating

That's a tricky one. Depends a lot on what your other tyres are like.

If you think you may need a 2nd soon then you could fit another 'V' rated and have them on the same axle. Remember, it's not ideal to have a nearly worn out and brand new tyre on the same axle either.

Re: New tyre - speed rating

The tyre fitter has recommended I swap my rears and fronts and keep the new one as a spare. I thought swapping wasn't recommended either?

If the speed thing is less of an issue than worn I may as well keep it as it is!
