Red face I can't open my fuel filler flap!

Erm, how do you open the fuel filler flap?

Just bought my little 1.2l Stilo, 3 Door, only done 30k and looks like its been looked after by the previous owners. Soo, went for my first drive today after sorting out the insurance and since the fuel was low, drove to Tesco to fill it up. Parked up next to the pump, got out and tried to open the flap but nope, wouldn't budge at all. Earlier on today, I'm sure I'd read that it unlocks automatically if the rest of the car is unlocked??

So, I scratched my head for a couple mins looking for a release button but then , I remembered that there was an emergency release in the boot!! Pulled the weedy red string behind the carpet panel and hey presto, we were in business!

So erm, yeah, how do you do it the proper way?

go into the menu and see if its set to independant, if not, think the early ones were linked to the central locking and the mechanism may have seized.

try pressing unlock twice, never had a problem as mine doesnt lock

re: I can't open my fuel filler flap!

It normally locks with the car, and assuming it's unlocked, then should just flip open.

Take care not to break it though and keep the hinge well lubricated.

re: I can't open my fuel filler flap!

also there is a little indent on the flap one the right side (towards the front of the car), push that first before pulling it open, that should open it a about a centimetre, then pulling open is a bit easier

I've just been out and it seems to be working fine now. Although, the hinge is a bit stiff and so yeah, probably needs lubricating. Thanks everyone.

Nope, its a metallic, pale, silvery green. Looked amazing under the petrol station forecourt lights, last night.

Yep, they're just steelies.

Ok another question: When going over slight bumps I can hear a knocking sound coming from, what seems to me, the front right. Although its hard to tell exactly. The exhaust back box and the central pipe have a lot of horizontal play due to the rubber mounts but no vertical movement and I can't replicate the sound when manually shaking it. Is it more likely to be the drop links that need replacing?

Sounds like it.

I'd jack it up, remove wheel, and take a look.

stiffer suspension will make it more noticable, and they wear out quicker so drop links for you too, hope you adjusted the camber when you lowered it, people overlook this and without doing so puts massive strain, on the links, drive shafts etc, my garage did mine without being told....good garage
