Re: Stilo bulbs

Talking of bulbs, I had a warning come up about the number plate light, but it went again. Does this mean it was a loose connection and it is OK again or the information thingy was being silly or it only reports the problem once and then stops bugging you.

My car seems to be going through a phase of blowing its bulbs, was the brake light the other week, and now my dads just used my car and one of the number plate bulbs has gone now! Stupid car!!

Number plate bulb; turn the sidelights on and whack it, make sure it's not just a loose connection (common Stilo fault!!)

Re: I hate light bulbs!

Err... ok folks HELP! Got a front inner sidelight bulb out on the nearside - BUT new JTD Dynamic Stilo has gas discharge headlights and i'm not sure how to get at it  Put plus 50's in for dipped and mains on me old Stilo but the back of the gas discharge lamp units look way different :(

Number plate light bulb

Hi,

Right had a warning that the number plate bulb had gone weeks ago and so today i thought right i will get a new one, Anyhow put new bulb in and it blew as soon as i turned the lights on.

Any ideas for what to look for please.

Thanks.

Re: Number plate light bulb

Look for another bulb? HA!:)
Duff bulbs have been known

It's a pretty simple circuit back there so provided the correct wattage bulb was used then maybe it's just a bad bulb.

Cheers, Greggers for that site at least now I can get cheap winder wipers. They had all the sizes of the bulbs except the interior light and the number plate light. But cheers mate anyhow!

Re: Number plate light bulb

Well when I go to find bulbs for my car I select all the details and when it gets to the number plate bulb it had the icon of "-" there so I dont actually know what size bulb it is....

But the windowwipers are EXTREMLY cheap there. Halfords quoted me £40 each wiper!

Bl***y Fiats.

Well today was mot day, and my Mw has failed its mot,

On what i hear you ask.....................

Number plate bulb, Well they put a new bulb in and still it doesnt work so they fail it. They took the SEALED unit out and the circit board behind the light looks like its burnt out.

So how much do you think its gonna cost for this sealed unit then, I dread to think!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So a 4 year old car fails on a bulb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:cry:

Never in my car ownership time of 20 years have i had a car fail on a 15p bulb .:bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang:

I know it's not going to help much now... hindsight and all that... but it really is worth checking the simple things like that before you actually go for your MOT to avoid this very situation. it only takes 5 minutes

Sorry to hear about the MOT though... that sort of thing is truly annoying :(

Re: Bl***y Fiats.

As Greggers says, always worth checking the real basic stuff like lights, stop lights, indicators and tyres (very quick if you have a friend to help) on the day before the MoT.

Having said that, mine failed on a worn front tyre on the last MoT which I failed to notice :bang: (a bit borderline )

Re: Bl***y Fiats.

Like it or not it has failed & as Argo stated why didn't you check the bulbs before you went for MOT?

A MOT tested is unlikely to risk losing his MOT license for the sake of a bulb so you will just have to sort it.

If its the lamp unit (likely) then you will have to replace it however it is worth stripping it down to see if you can repair it. (from memory your looking at £45 ish for new unit plus painting)

Re: Bl***y Fiats.

or a trip to the scrappy and butcher it.

It maybe sealed, but it wasnt at one point.

Not wanting to rub in about bulbs, but thats one thing that i always make sure i do. I cacked myself just before my MOT as right indicators decided not to stay on anymore and i thought the stalk was shafted- however it was just the rubber bunched up

Re: Bl***y Fiats.

well i cant see what harm it would have done to be honest, and besides the last garage i used to take my escort too would have, anyways the bit that needs replacing is the whole unit which is black and not colour keyed, and tucked up under the lip above the number plate but the garage are sorting it out on tuesday.

I suppose this is the kind of thing i need to get used to with these stilos now then. Cant really see how i can repair a burnt out circit board so looks like im at the mercy of fiat.

I knew the bulb had gone and wrongly assummed it was just that a bulb. Still live and learn!!!!!
