i have a 1.4 2005 stilo and im starting to have problems with starting the engine. In recent days (particularly when it is damp outside) i can start the engine, it fires up and then immediately stops. When i then try to restart the engine just turns over without firing. After leaving it a few minutes I can get it to fire up again.

i ahve found that if i catch it on starting the first time and press the accelerator i can keep it running

i also found that keeping it in a garage overnight seemed to get rid of the problem

anyone any idea what the problem might be?

I think you've answered your own question with these two comments. LOL :D
Easy answer is that damp/water/moisture is getting in somewhere in the ignition or battery areas.
Give them a check over to see if anything is loose or open to the elements.

Yes; this is a common problem with any make of car.

If the high voltage areas become dirty over time (as they obviously will) then when water condenses out of the atmosphere it will tend to coat these parts with water - the result being the car wont start.

The answer is to clean the engine and spray with a water repellent spray (such as WD40). Only spray electrical items - I don't mean the whole engine.
