Welcome!

Easy answer - just buy a JTD - if you can find one (y)

I agree with Argo. on this one. Judging from previous posts on here, the JTD seems the best for reliability but because of it's turbo and power output, it's not the cheapest to insure. Cheapest to insure would be the basic 1.2 petrol engine version.

Dave.

thanks im 19 so i will have a look at the difrence between 1.2 .and jtd .,(y)(y)

I quite like my 1.6, although its probably similar to insure as the JTD.

The 1.6 has little power under 3.5K RPM which makes it good for pootling round town in! but from then on it pulls really very well! It also sounds great! Mine is just a 5 door active, but it does sound sporty, i really like the noise it makes! Not sure if thats down to the exhaust, but its just a standard Bosal one.

Economy isnt too bad, about 32-35 in the town and 41-45 on motorways. Love the gearbox on it, so smooth and slick!

Ideally i prefer diesels to drive, my everyday car (Fiat is a spare car!) is a Seat TDi and i wouldn't swap it for the world (y)

Ive heard the 1.6 can be troublesome, and was replaced by the 1.4 later on, but ive not had any problems with my 1.6 (touch wood!).

Such an underated car in what ever form, great value and some really good ideas. So nice choice on the stilo!

1.2 is a 6 speed, i keep thinking its a big car to have a 1.2 engine in, which is probably why its a 6sp so you can get the most from 1.2. Its got 23bhp less than the 1.6 iirc. Although it will be insurance friendly and more economical.

I've got the 1.2 and it's the same with little power below 3.5k but then kicks in (well as much as it can with only 80BHP).

I get 29-30MPG in town and 44-45MPG on motorways, but I've got a heavy foot! I tried granny town driving for about 20 miles after I filled up the other day and it got 38-39MPG in town.

i have a 1.2 and bascally did manchester to london to manchester on 1/2 a tank of fuel.

its cheap to insure and does actually move a lot quicker than you'd expect it to

on mways im 50mpg+ and everyday driving to work on normal roads/rush hour, im averaging 40mpg

thanks everyone was rely helpfull .i test drove a 1.2 in dark grey was very nice but had a funny nosie in the engine sounded like crunching when i put my foot down abit also had 2 much miles ,,,but im still geting 1 and im not going 2 rush., so do they make a 1.4 .and dose a 1.4 come with leather seats ,.also i have seen some pictures of built in satnav and car phone .would that have come on a 1.4 .or eny 1.2 of eny age ????(y)(y)(y):),.,.,.thanks avit ,.,

What did you think to the drive apart from the engine noise?

Yes there is a 1.4, the phase 2 stilo was available with the 1.4 engine, so you will need to find a later stilo to get a 1.4. It replaced the 1.6 engine, although its slightly down on power from the 1.6 with 95 BHP, its still in the same insurance group as the 1.6 though :(

Leather was an option i think, ive seen a couple of stilos with leather, but 1.9s and 1.8s mainly, also climate and sat nav were options too. So you might have a bit of a wait to find one specced with that, if they were even available on the 1.4.

That is very good! :)

the drive was very good i like it alot .i had a vaxuhall corsa 04 wich was very nice 2 drive 2 but stilos seems more nicer and more comfy lol,.:slayer:

hey, I'm 19 and just bought a JTD. Everything about it is great! insurance is cheap (£500 third party or £850 fully comp), tax is cheap and get about 50mpg when driving normally :D. And it goes like hell, just drove to france and it was soo much better than my old 1.3 mini on the motorway

You should deffinately get the JTD IMO! :)

I own a 1.2, it's far too big a car for that engine. The engine works hard and is fine for around the town but can struggle to overtake on M-roads and A-roads, especially if there's an incline.

Wow, you are doing well, over the last 1106 miles, I've averaged 40.1mpg.
Most of my driving is on the A14/A11. I have a very, very heavy right foot though :(

I've had the JTD Stilo since i was 19, now had it for a year and a bit and i cant fault it (y).
Insurance is cheap (y), tax is cheap (y), great fuel economy (y) and a lot of poke to go with it (y). It's a very nice car to drive and i'm so glad i chose this car. It's had a few problems but all very minor and all have been well covered on here and i was able to sort them all out very inexpensively.

Would definately recommend the JTD (y).

Agreed,

You won't find another manufacturer with a car with the same performace at a lower insurance group. 0 - 60 is something like 10 seconds and mpg i get is around 50 average (not going to slow). Plus there are more trim ranges on the JTD.

Tax is £110 for the year and i'm paying £550 a year (20, male, with one accident).

Mines quite high mileage (100k), but still running like a dream (touch wood).

Matt

If i was choosing a Stilo, id be going for the JTD.

The 1.6 is a great all rounder, ive read a few roadtests about the stilo recently all say the 1.6 offers the best blend of handling, ride comfort and performance. It says the JTD is a little sitffer

My Stilo found us, so we didnt hold out for a diesel. I find the 1.6 great though, pulls well if you use the full rev range, handles very well, and the ride is so comfy!

Group 5 insurance is very low for a 0-60 in 10 seconds car. Both the 1.6 and JTD are similar on paper in that department.

I have a heavy foot and achieve reasonable MPG from my 1.6, can easily get over 40MPG with decent motorway speeds, and even some fast country lane runs it doesnt drop below 35 mpg.

I own a 1.2, it's far too big a car for that engine. The engine works hard and is fine for around the town but can struggle to overtake on M-roads and A-roads, especially if there's an incline.

Ah, there is a down side to getting 50 MPG from a petrol Stilo then!

I did think it may be a little underpowered, especially when its a common engine for the 5 door, which i guess is a little bigger and heavier than the 3 door. A 5 door with 5 people aboard and a boot full i can imagine would be a lot for it

That I can honestly say is a chore! You can just feel the loss in power.

the 95bhp 1.4 was a replacement for the 1.2 and the 1.6 and still kept the six speed box, great little engine, though from choice i would choose the jtd too, but would settle for the 1.4 if a jtd wasnt available, the jtd is quite sought after and very rare

the diesel has a stiffer suspension setup because of the extra weight od the diesel motor;)

i saw one yesrterday in a dealership, it said 1.4 dynamic, but it was a 5 speed  Unless it was a 1.6 and they got it wrong maybe.

Quite odd that it had sold on it, and to mr ...... my surname

I thought that about the weight yes, cant but much stiffer though.

can be, same sort of setup on the abarth and there quite a bit stiffer than a 1.8 say(iv driven both), but yeah all 1.4 were 6 speed? and the 1.4 only came in dynamic trim on the 5dr,but was only available for a year and a bit.
