Posted this on the general forum, but any clues here? Its related to the noise you get if you open the bonnet up when the slave cylinder goes in & out whilt doing the clutch, I know that noise is normal, but should you feel it on the gear knob VERY slightly when pumping the clutch in neutral? No feedback when driving changing gears - just in neutral.

My 4 year old Punto when in neutral and you push the clutch up and down has a slight vibration come back up the gearstick which can be felt on the gear knob! It doesn't do it when normally changing gear whilst driving. But noticed today my new Stilo does the same thing. I think my Punto has done it since new.

Amyone know what it is?

Certainly never noticed my car doing this, although its not good practice to hold the gear knob generally, other than when changing gear alone. Holding onto gear lever when in gear or neutral tends to wear the selector forks causing flopping difficult gear change..... ask any mini owner! ;)

Can't be worn engine mounts as the 4 year old Punto has done it for 3 years and 60k miles where as the Stilo is new with 3k on and does it too. I reckon its just the way some are!

So if its been like it for 60k miles it can't be going to do any damage as its never got any worse on the Punto.

Punto will cost, Stilo will be free, but my dealership said when I showed them stilo noise we'll take the whole box out and see whats going on inside....I can only imagine the end result!

Punto on 60k, getting tempted to get rid of in coming 12 months and get a Multipla for my wife and baby and I'll get have the Stilo.

Take the Stilo first(it should have warranty)if they break it then they fix it for free, if it does get fixed then you´ll know what to do to the Punto;)
