Hi Guys,
Im having major problems with my 1.6 Stilo. Ive already taken it to fiat butthey seem clueless so i thought i would come to the real experts:slayer:

I was on the M25 wen it cut out at over 70mph. i pulled over but when i tried to restart the car it said "Check Vehicle Protection System" the security symbol illuminated but no ignition light came up. The car wudnt start. About an hour later i tried the car again and it worked, only to stop again the next day.
I took it to the dealer and have the keys re-coded and a full diagnostic check carried out on the car. The diagnostic showed no faults and the car then stared fine. I came to collect the car but the same problem happened again.
The mechanic said that it may be a problem with the ECU or wiring?

Please can anyone help??

For the vehicle protection problem then i'd check out what you can of the immobiliser circuit. So I'd look here first, the aerial pick up ring around the ignition switch. This interrogates and picks up the info from your immobiliser chip in your key fob. Sometimes the wiring to the connector here gets a bit suspect which causes your warning light and hit/miss starting

Thanks alot but would the ariel cause my ignition light to fail?

many people dont reply to say what their solution is.

If you have the same problem as me you will need a new ecu. it worked for me. Thanks Deckchair

Had a simialr problem with my wife's 1.6....had a mobile mechanic do a diagnostics....came up with ECU fault.

Towed car to Fiat dealer, they charged battery ready to do their own diagnostics, tried the car and it started......not had a prblem since....touch wood:D

Stilo electrics seem very susceptible to a poor battery. I had all kinds of gremlins on my 1.6...until I replaced the battery with a 75 amp hr jobbie. Perfect from then on.
