Hi fairly new at this so appolgies if in the wrong forum. I have a 53 plate stilo with just over 40 thousand on the clock. Twice this week it has just lost all power when trying to accelerate, once when idling at a junction and the other when dropping down a gear. 1st time it stalled and would not re-start untill at least 5 mins later then proceeded to pour out black smoke from the exhaust when revved, second time stayed running but no aceleration and some black smoke, but mostly grey smoke and tick over was fine. There are no warning lights on at all and diagnostics could not find anything wrong when RAC (can I say that?) attended. On re-start of the engine 'check ok' appears as normal. I've had the car for about 18 months now with no problems and was serviced about 8 months ago, but I can't remeber whether full service or not and don't have paperwork infront of me as car left in works car park as not confident to drive through town in case it happens again. The only thing they both had in common was they had been started up from cold and driven for about 30 seconds to a minuite when it happened.

The bad news , I know nothing about the innards of an engine, only how to check the oil water etc so if any one has any thoughts simple terms would be good. Thanks in advance.

Hi, things to check is the intercooler hose. If it has a split the car will behave as you say. Can you hear a slight whooshing sound when the turbo does kick in? If yes then it's probably the hose. Lots of smoke and no acceleration, been there myself.

hi bozzy thanks for your reply, gonna send hubby tomorrow to look: it's still on the car park.(

Hi, did this solve the problem? I'm experiencing a similar intermittent problem myself.

Thanks Ian

Well done for posting to an existing thread but I think you're wasting your time on this one. (unless you want to PM the OP)

Plenty of other threads with resolutions though.
