Hi guys!

I have a 1.8 Stilo Dynamic (2002) and like a week ago I had problems starting the engine.

What happened: I fueled the car, drove for about 10km then parked it (in the evening). After a few hours, when I tried to start it, it didn't want to start. I heard the electric motor (I'm not sure that is the correct term) as it was trying to start the engine, but with no luck. The second time started quite easily. Same thing happened next morning. I think it has something to do with the petrol from that gas station, but I am not quite sure. Could it be one of the injectors, or the spark plugs? The performance has not changed at all and it usually starts in about 5 seconds from the moment I completely turn the ignition.

How can I tell if the spark plugs are gone?

Thanks in advance and sorry for the bad technical language :D

Sounds like you could have an issue with your crank sensor. The ecu uses this to tell that the crank is actually rotating and allows the engine to start. When it starts failing, sometimes you can start the engine, sometimes not.

Try a search on the forum and see what you can find. It's been covered pretty well by others who encountered similar issues (y)

i don't quite remember, but is it normal to start in about 5 seconds from the moment i completely turn the ignition? 10x :)

anyway, I think I'll buy and elm interface and see what's what. Thanks for the info mate!

Cheers! :)

okay, so i've investigated the problem furthermore and it seems that the slow start appears only with a cold start. by slow start I mean that from the moment I turn the ignition it takes the starter motor a couple of second to fire up "the beast" :). with the warm engine, it starts like a dream.

dirty injector, spark plugs, what are you thinking? btw, how cand I test the spark plugs?

Thanks in advance and I know that this is only a very very small problem but I like my car to be just perfect :)
