re: JTD - GSR induction & Red-Dot remaps!

i have a 2005 1.9 jtd doblo tht has been angel tuned but no induction kit!

had a engine management light issue turned out it was a fault code that didnt save in the memory! so went after 4/5 ign cycles and went out, only made the light come on when you were being a little enthusiastic at the top end of the rev range in 4th norm whilst overtakin ppl :p

on the next service i found it to be the small hose from the back of the turbo to the boost controller assembly had come loose reconnected all is good,

the only downside is it doesnt make max power when its really hot outside i think the standard intercooler struggles in hotter weather to lower ambient charge temp, overall very pleased with the tuning in general wouldnt change back i luv the extra power and torque,

i couldnt recommend angel any more highly!! superb service!

re: JTD - GSR induction & Red-Dot remaps!

So, I presume you removed it from the manifold to clean it?

Just how dirty was it?
Yes I did and very dirty. Probably 20% reduced in size due to crud build up inside. I imagine the rest of the manifold is the same. One day, when I have time, I'll take it off too.

re: JTD - GSR induction & Red-Dot remaps!

It seems you are experiencing turbo Lag

No, not turbo lag. What some of us are getting is effectively a turbo 'shut down' as the ECU goes "what the feck" a situation which I'm trying to either do away with or bypass.....
I can only explain this by fault of the ECU not understanding what this extra information is at this point and the advanced timing is going out of sink of the fuelling. (I dont have a clue what this means as i said before im not too up on how engines work i am just deriving from facts) anyway this could explain dirty sparks in my old Punto.

I'm still to be convinced it's the ECU..... I strongly believe the sensors are the key. The ECU simply responds to the signals it gets sent.... so cheat the signals and you have a sort of solution.

Surely the only relevant sensor is the MAF (and not forgetting temperature :chin:)

I'm a bit confused by this thread already?

Do Red Dot remaps without GSR induction still produce engine faults anyway? (Minimad seems to suggest they do )

re: JTD - GSR induction & Red-Dot remaps!

Could the reason be too much power, Has anyone remapped to a slightly lesser bhp to see if that works. Also would a induction kit be of any use on a standard jtd.:chin:

Mine was rolling roaded pre-GSR kit, then with GSR kit and then with GSR kit and remap. The induction kit alone was worth a couple of BHP but a much more dramatic raise in torque(y)

Everything that feeds the ECU information relevant to the running of the engine is, in theory at least, a possible 'target' for playing around with although it would be fair to say that the MAF is, in form or another, most likely the chief culprit :(

just something to add maybe relevant may not I have a Marea JTD 110 and a tuning chip which is adjustable if the screw is turned too far the engine light will come on so its set at its limit

Does your jtd sound nicer, ie turbo whistle and does it get rid of the air box and all that trunking. I am very very tempted to buy one and then maybe get it remapped. Cos i am thinking maybe getting a straight through exhuast at some point too. If you can get them.

Hmmmmmmmmmm might have too now!!!! So how much quicker in real life is it over standard.
Nice stilo too.

Update

OK, so first part of my plan has gone surprisingly well - which means it's bound to go t*ts up

I removed the MAF sensor from its housing in the GSR kit last night and 'plugged' the gap (wine cork as it happens :D ) but left it connected then bunged it into it's old housing and chucked some layers of gauze over the 'induction' end of the pipe (ie - the one I pointed forwards) to disturb the airflow over the sensor.

The old MAF pipe with sensor back in it was then loosely fixed "out of the way".

No engine faults on the way into work this morning - no matter how I tried to make them happen......... the return trip this evening could be interesting.

Could it really be that simple

Somehow I doubt it :rolleyes::bang:

re: JTD - GSR induction & Red-Dot remaps!

In protest at being up for sale my Stilo gave me a warning light today. At idle again on pops the light and the dreaded beep beep. P0235.

It's in at the dealers for what I sincerely hope is the last time (for me anyway)
