Re: JTD Cone Filter

regarding some of the posts above:

hotter air entering intercooler = hotter air exiting (it is not an airon freezer)
cool air is denser (ALOT) i do not see any possible improvements in flow MASS with a setup that sucks air in from the engine bay (after it goes through radiator.. you may get more VOLUME but not mass as hot air expands..) - you need an intake fin on the bonnet or ram type induction - although original system may be restrictive.. a stilo (even with a remap) will not exceed its throughput..

although no one has to listen.. but my view (for which i've been grilled in my first few posts) is to put in a k&n panel filter and be done with it (only possible improvement without modifying engine head etc. would come from the filter anyway) if you’ve so much money to spend – go buy some leather interior or vax it

Re: JTD Cone Filter

The most restrictive (narrowest) part of a JTD air intake is the MAF sensor and you cant really take that out. Standard air filter has a big surface area and is more than adequate for the 1.9 engine.

Exhaust restrictions/ back pressure affect turbo spin up, not intake.

If you want to know what difference the air filter makes, buy (or make) yourself a manometer and connect it to the air inlet pipe after the MAF. A worse air filter will cause more pressure drop under high demand. Also try each side of the MAF to see the difference that makes.

Having looked at this and thought about it all day today i am going to atempt to put the peice of pipe that goes from the grill and see if i can get cooler air flow to the filter just out of interest.

Cant see it making a jot of difference to the engine or anything else for that matter and to honest if it was good enough for the Gsr induction & filter and a remap then tis good enough for me.

I do intend to have a play about with this over the summer and see if i can get pipes and have a go myself to tidy things up a tad.

Any ideas where to get pipe for this project?????????

Cheers Guys

Now what to do with the breather, im inclined to get a drip can and vent it doing away with the oil catch tank.

I presume the Gsr kit put the mass air flow senser in a different place as opossed to standard spec and nence some errors. Whats the best way to measure for diamiter of the pipe work as well.

Or would anybody be able to tell me what size pipe i need.:worship:

Bit of a bugger i cant get the filter in the front of the car in front of the radiator but still will make it up and have a play.

Thanks.

think the pipe work is all 76mm, standard.

nope its in the same place, just without the casing, the problems with the beeps was the pipe width, narrowing it, with a jubilee clip, worked and it also worked on oz's jtd, that why just before the kits were knocked on the head for the 2.4 and the jtd, the pipe, was modified going slightly thinner just before the maf.

result, no more beeps.

that regals motorsport place do pipe with the breather attatchment, thats what i got on my alfa, think its the pipe plus on their site, in different lengths(y)

on my schui, i lengthened the pipe, cut a hole just before the wheel arch in the side, and had it poking through to pasenger side, so it was right infront of the grill. good ram effect.

Thanks for that, however the thought of having it so close to the ground like that wouldn't be for me not knowing what i drive though.

I'm thinking at the mo that i will come off the turbo to the maff, 90 degree bend, length off straight pipe, another bend with the filter looking forwards so its just below where the old air intake came through the front panel.

So subject to me getting bits and pieces this week i will keep you all informed with progress.

Any thoughts on the above.

its as far off the ground as the bottom of the bumper, lower than i wanted it, but was working with a reday made kit.

the one i have made for my alfa, is in nearely the same place, but alot higher up(y)
