My alternator belt snapped today on my abarth (n), I attempted a search to no avail, can anyone give me advice on changing the alternator belt ??

1. How does the lower air con belt come off ?
2. Do you tension the alternator belt like on some older cars (fiat coupe) or is it tight to get on then that's all.
3. Will I have to remove any nut bolts tensioners etc to fit the belt. ??

Any advice members can afford me would be appreciated as I intend to tackle this tomorrow. Thanks in advance.

Hi Ben,

The alternator belt is a stretchy type belt which you just slip over the pulleys but if i remember rightly, then you'll need to take the air-con belt off first. if you're doing that, then I suggest getting a new one as the air-con belt isn't a stretchy one, it's kept under tension with an automatic tensioner which you twist to fit the belt on. If the alternator belt broke it stands to reason that the air-con belt might break soon as well, so it might be worth getting a new one!
You don't need to remove any nuts or bolts but it is tight down there and you'll only be able to do it from below...

Good luck! I think Shop4parts have got both the belts you need... They're codes are:

#1 S4P2776 £8.64
#2 46758804 £7.73 (Stretchy Belt)

Might be worth thinking about changing the fixed tensioner on the air-con belt as well while you're there. (y)
