What MPG do you get with your 1.6 Stilos?

Mine averages 37MPG, which is nearly all out of town driving - 60 miles a day.

Pretty dissapointed with the MPG to be honest, i now its a petrol but i would have expected low 40s. I can see it making way for a more economical diesel car

I have had 42MPG on a few occasions on longer motorway drives but its sitting at 37 all the time now.

So, what do you get?

That's about right, I have to ask what were you expecting from a largish Italian car with a 1.6 engine? It will cruise at 70mph all day at 40 mpg and my 1.2 Bravo will only manage 45mpg at the same speed so as a petrol motorway cruiser it's damned good

The diesels are the ones for economy but diesel at the pumps is noticeable higher price,
Then you'll need to change the car speakers as you have to have the music up so loud to drown the engine noise
Then you have to move house from complaints from the neighbours of the noise in the mornings
Then there's that smokescreen you leave behind when you pass people at speed with your remapped JTD but instead of them thinking
"Look at that car go!"
They think
"My god that car's been trashed, look at that!"
:) :)

My old 1.2 8v Punto would only manage around 45-46 mpg at best :) I personally think thats very good fuel economy for the 1.6, people have seen a lot lower before! If you really want good fuel economy, you should have got a JTD :)

its not all that bad

at a motorway cruise i bet the diesel is more calm and sedate then the petrol engine as its turning over less revs, alright in town it might be a bit worse but the jtd's arent the worst diesel engines out there :D

and as for the smoke, all diesel cars do it, have you seen a mondeo when it accelerates :yuck:

Don't be so quick to bite Josh - Deck's just let a little jealousy slip by - that's all ;)

There are very few cars that can kick arse as smoothly as a JTD (and use such little fuel in the process) :D

Hee! Hee!:)
Just off to see if i can get anywhere near the Italian car day at Bristol as there'll be a few Italian gas guzzlers there i reckon. Crowded even on a normal Saturday. Finishes at 4pm

Seems to be doing about right then.

TBH i bought it cheap, although hasnt quite worked out that way with all the things its needed doing! but never mind, its proving very reliable and very comfortable.

Its done about 400 miles a week since we bought it, so really it is a lot of miles where i could be saving a few £ with a diesel.

I guess id forgotten how much diesels use, we have a little 1.4TDi which does about 56 - 60MPG average, its an excellent car, very quiet, reasonably quick, feels quicker than the stilo! and good on fuel. So i think the stilo might be swapped in the next few months for a small diesel car. What are the diesel Puntos like?

I do prefer diesels over petrols anyway, maybe i should have bought a diesel stilo in the first place

On a side note:..... how well do stilos sell?
And what would mine be worth if i did sell?
Its a 2002 52reg, 1.6 Active 5 door in red with full service history, new cambelt and has covered 38000 miles.

Thanks. :)

You mpg matches mine, I do mainly town with a small bit of A road driving and I see around 35-38mpg up to the low 40's on motorways!

Stilo's do sell but not for spectacular prices!
If you want a rough idea try: www.parkers.co.uk!

Hmm i hope parkers is a very rough guide!

£1800

It owes me a lot more than that and i thought i bought it cheaply :bang:

Oh well, will get some use out of it first i think.

lol my 1.6 averages mid to high 20's in town and 39ish on motorways (if im not in a rush), id be over the moon if i got your consumption

Make sure your air filter's clean but try reinstalling your MAP sensor, clear any fault codes and reset your ECU as you should be getting easy over 30mpg around town. Sounds like you're running on base settings which the 1.6 does very well but costs a limb at the pumps

 low 20s! You could have a much bigger engines car with that MPG!

We had a v8 Range rover which did 8-10 mpg in town! That was scary. £80 a week in fuel and that was when fuel was much cheaper and it was only a town car :D

Ill be quiet about my MPG from now on then, seems its doing around what they all do.

Will keep a look out for a good JTD though!

I do about 400 miles a week in my 1.6 Stilo into London everday so a mixture of a long motorway stretch then city traffic. I am averaging 40mpg according to the trip computer.

if it was on base settings wouldnt it be slower though, and it doesnt seem particularly slow, where do i locate the map sensor then? lol

No, most 1.6 owners don't even realise it's happening, it runs so well on guesswork but the true MAP makes for much better economy and that's a big clue as well as the lambda sensor which allows fine air/fuel tuning under steady rpm conditions

Do a search on MAP sensor, it's really easy to find on the 1.6

Well, unfortunately, the Stilos replacement is here, so the stilo will be up for sale in a couple of weeks time.

Short lived stilo ownership really, but its replacement is more economical.

If you want a nice 1.6 5 door, i will have one for sale in a few weeks! :)

Thanks for the replies, sounds like ours is running fine :)
