im thinking of installing a sub and amp but just wanted to no if i can fit it directly to the factory fitted tape player and 5 disc cd changer?? and if i need to do anything diffrent to what i would if it was a after market cd player? thanks

your standard tape player will not have the line out feature than most afternarket stereos do. therefore, you would not be able to wire up a sub, unless you sacrificed one of your speaker channels and bought an amp with a high-level input.

IMO, not worth it.

thats what i was thinking but had to double check. what about if i got 6.5 inch component speakers and put them in my door would i need a amp to power them? at the moment i have jus put in some sony 6.5 inch speakers but there just your standard flat speakers and dont have much bass behind them.

currently i just have some 6.5 sony speakers there the flat ones though only cheap ones cost me £35.00 clear as you like just no bass behind them any ideas???

Unfortunately the only way to get real bass in your car is to use some good 6.5in components with an amp. The stock stereo really limits the options you have, as the amp in there won't really be powerful enough to put decent speakers to good use.

The only option i can really suggest is to try some sound deadening/dynamat type stuff around the 2 sony speakers you have already, although there are no gaurentees, and it's £30 you could put toward a HU upgrade.

If you're looking to keep the stock stereo because you have a CD changer, there are load of bargain HUs with up to 12 disk changers, or, you could do as i do and use MP3 CDs or a stereo with a USB socket.

That way you have the line outs etc to be able to really upgrade your sound system. I think you could prob pick up a decent HU, Amp and speaker combo for £200 or less, or stick with your sonys and just get a HU and sub, in fact, i have a 10in vibe one sat in my garage, that i'll never use! ;)

looks like i gotta upgrade the hu then i was trying to avoid it as it looks the part with the origonal in there when ya start getting adaptors etc it starts looking pants :( ohwell music before looks :p thanks

unfortunately that's the way when you start off with a double din unit. You can prob find a few aftermarket ones that arent too expensive, i know JVC do one, have a look for the 2008 JVC thread in the ICE section! (y)

you CAN wire an amp into the normal hu as i did this before i got a new head unit, you just need an adaptor and you dont need to lose any of your speaker channels, give source sounds a call there spot on i think there website is www.sourcesounds.co.uk

i think the standard HU's are rather good.........for standard equipment. i have yet to see a SINGLE aftermarket HU install in a stilo that looks right. all the facisa look horrible and due to the size of the HU area, nothing fills it up properly.

adruss85, you dont have to sacrafice speaker channels for high level input, just splice into the wiring. both will work fine.

ben, i have a converter that will give you inputs for an amp (LINK)

easiest thing to do is put a sub and amp in the back. still feel a bit wanting, then upgrade and amp the stock speakers :)

If high level inputs take a direct feed from the stereo, and would act like a speaker, surely by splicing in you're going to double your current draw on the HU amp? I personally wouldnt take that risk but i guess as long as you dont run the HU near the limits of its output (would be foolish to do so anyway!) then should be ok.

I will admit that the standard unit is rather good for a standard unit. Certainly looks good and if it was the mp3 version i would've left it in!

Hey guys, didnt wanna start a new thread, cause i too have questions about a sub and amp install. Sold me old Punto this morning and ripped the sub and amp out of even salvaged the wiring :D

anyway .... question! Where under the bonnet have people stuck the amp power cable to get through to the car? and ... Where has people got the earthing wire connected?

Cheers.

there is a guide in the guides section.

i personally followed the cabin wiring through the bulkhead, as i have a rather thick 0AWG cable ;)
