Stage 2 - GSR BMC twin cone induction kit

Well, as a few of you know i had stage 1 of my tune up done a few weeks being my exhaust.. here's the thread if you missed it: https://www.fiatforum.com/showthread.php?t=55952

and stage 2 was a GSR F14i BMC twin cone induction kit and well all ive got to say is i cant recommend this product enough - in my opinion this is a must for any owner with a 1.8 stilo :)

this isn't just any induction kit, i researched into the different options avaliable for the 1.8 stilo for quite a while and there was green filter, K&N & pipercross filter avaliable. But these seem really not to do anything apart from looking good and sounding nice and in case's zapping power from the engine when hot. I also looked at the BMC CDA which is in the same price bracket as the GSR with rrp of £183.

But it is worth every penny and with proven gains of 10bhp from an induction kit alone! Espically from a non turbo petrol engine, a remap is only slightly more for this varient!

Here is another thread from Dog how had the induction fitted to to show the proven 10bhp gains: https://www.fiatforum.com/showthread.php?t=55688 Yes thats right just under a 150bhp with an induction kit alone, also other 1.8 stock stilo that had been rolling road from are freinds in greece and caim back that this varient was hitting the 140bhp mark standard!

So....
I went down to sunny watford to Red Dot racing to meet pete (oldschool) from GSR engineering. I cant stress enough how helpfull this guy is, the customer service is second to none! If you have any question at all, he is very happy to take the time to explain things to you - were other company just want you in and out as quick as possible and to take your money!

I was down the for about 5hours with pete having the induction kit sorted and also spoke of the possibilites of the novitech supercharger being fitted to the 1.8 :D

After having the induction kit fitted and going for test runs after with pete, well i didnt really put my foot down when he was in the car much. But i sure gave it some hell for leather when i got home and the difference is quite noticable the torque delivery is smoother and the engine feel more responsive and a bit quicker.. obviously it's not going to be like a rocket as its only a 10bhp gain but for the money this modification is an essential in my eyes!

Red Dot Racing/GSR engineering are also doing me a live remap and i am going to have it RR before the remap and after the remap. This is the Stage 3, i will post the results when i get this done to show the gains to everybody and anybody who many be a dissbeliver. These guys are not into b*llsh*ting you like some company who claim different gains figure which aren't possible and they prove this on the RR.

Like ive said these guy runs top companys, and i would recommend them to anybody and if you recieve good service you should rave about it to let other people know!

The fitting was done to such a high standard that if the tubing was black you would have thought that it was stock on the engine! But i went for red as it will make nicely with my red strut brace when i get around to fitting it..

So anyway i will stop rambling on now, and here is the pictures:

EDIT: oh it also sounds awesome, i will have to get some recordings up!

LOL!

Yes i am very happy, it is possible to get over 200bhp out of this varient but it is very costly and involves the supercharger. Would luv to see that guys car on a RR!

Well happy reading guys... im off to work to do some more overtime to get the rest of me funds for the remap (y)

Re: Stage 2 - GSR BMC twin cone induction kit

Was thinking to myself yesterday Mmmm 1.8 has gone down to Peters wonder how he is getting on and what the outcome will be well you seem to be happy enough with the result (y) so do you feel a marked improvement in acceleration through the gears 1st to 4th and the engine responce is improved and did you get any gain on your top speed and did you see any improvment or worsening of fuel consumption [just a few questions for now ]:D grilling comes later :D and what size throttle body does the 1.8 have.

well, the fuel consumption has stayed the same around 25-30mpg! But i will be monitoring it over the next few weeks... And yes top speed as improved i dont quite know by how much exactly but on my private test track ;) i have my speed limiter thing set to 135 and it bleeped speed limit set exceed *slow down* lol! so i let off, it got there quite easy, it just feels like it wants to go hunting :) . As before when i got to around 120mph it picked up quite slowly. I will take a picture when im on my test track again  Grill away PNL. I will answer as honestly as i can.. but the best person to talk about the induction kit is pete (oldschool)

EDIT: im not what size the throttle body is on the 1.8 but after speaking to pete he said due to the size of the current throttle body i wudnt be able to go much more larger so there really wudnt be much gain if any at all, so thats off me list now!

Peter has the induction kit for the 1.6 and 2.4 as he put it ON THE DRAWING BOARD so I dont want to keep pestering him unnessessarily just let him get on with what he is doing and when he is ready Ime sure he will contact me with what he has done things like this cannot be rushed and I understand that .But its nice also to get the perspective and appraisal from other stilo owners(y) for example did he put your car on RR before and after the kit was fitted and how long did it take to fit the kit . And once the kit was on did he have to do any tweeking or make any mechanical adjustments to the injection system. What was bhp reading before and after fitting. Will he make the tubeing to any colour for the customer.I can see roughly where the twin cone filter is located but is there any mounting problems and what is it mounted to. Just a few questions to start 1.8 (y)

The fitting is quite an arse due to the location and size of the old kit. The car was put up on the ramp to make the process easier being able to take the undertray off and gain assess that way.

I didnt have my car RR because i didnt want it done this time, as it quite expensive and basicallly cost £££. I've decided to have it done next time before and after the remap. So when i have it done then i will be able to tell the reading with my exhaust and induction and then after combined with the remap. But you can look at previous results of the induction ie. the link to dog's RR with just the induction kit on the standard varient!

As for mounting i should think that the mounting bracket that pete attached comes as parts of the kit, please dont quote me on this - im sure pete will comment. The bracket is attached to the cars body under the battery tray so its hiden away nicely and dose not intrude on anything else. Also another fitting modification is that if you want to keep the engine cover, if you look at my pictures it needs to cut with a curve to accomdate the tubing.

Although the curve might not have to cut into later car's engine covers whom may fit this induction kit as pete has borrowed parts of the tubing from my standard induction kit to adapt the shape of the tubing slightly, as this tubing is ideally made for the HGT!

If i remember rightly the tubing comes in red, blue and yellow? But again ask pete (oldschool) he might be able to supply different colours?

No adjust's were made to the injection system to my knowledge, although i was in a out the workshop as my poor little toes were getting rather cold, lol :)

One thing that was removed was a mesh plate that was over the air intake into the engine block were the tubing was attached too. This is optional to be taken off though and can be left on if you wish, but if you remove it like we did it aid's the induction kits airflow. You just need to make sure you keep the induction kit serviced/cleaned regularly this way as you dont want sh*t getting into your engine!

EDIT: also for new members how dont know who oldschool (pete) is. Here is his companys details:

GSR ENGINEERING,
EAST HAM,
EAST LONDON
OFFICE TELEPHONE:01708 805750

and a website were a glimps of some of the products can be seen on:

Re: Stage 2 - GSR BMC twin cone induction kit

Phil,

I will look into the throttle body very soon. I made some progress on the induction. The past few weeks I had another project on that was a bit tricky, taking much more time than I wanted to spend. Anyway, I am going tomorrow to Italy for business and when I am back on Wednesday the physical work on the 1.6 induction will start alongside the Abarth kit and if the test car comes in for the JTD.

I will put up a new thread then with the progress.

Re: Stage 2 - GSR BMC twin cone induction kit

1.8Stilo, your enthusiastic posts are a tonic. I haven't considered modifying one of my cars since I put a Cherry Bomb on my Metro 15 years ago (sorry!), but you've got me seriously thinking about it. Pete, keep up the good work; cash will be waiting when you are ready with the 1.6 version...

Re: Stage 2 - GSR BMC twin cone induction kit

Pete always does good work :D
I know he was very helpful and understanding when i bought a cinq gsr kit from him.
Dont worry pete, i will DEFIENTLY be coming to you for one of these kits very shortly!

Re: Stage 2 - GSR BMC twin cone induction kit

Well it certainly looks like you gonna be very busy Peter my friend :)

What will make me even more busy is the fact that the factory has got a lead time of 10 weeks, which means I have a lot of talking to do to jump the q.
