Right, i've had the damned thing 2 weeks and i've got the message 'AUTO GEARBOX FAIL', it will only get in gear once in 10 times-ish, is it the pump thats gone?

:cry::mad::cry::mad:

I'm pretty much sick of it already, get a sick feeling in my stomach every time I go out in it:mad:

Yes mate, it humms away... Which is why I was hoping for it to be a sensor? I got 1st a couple of times, yet when I take my foot off the brake it falls back into N.

Nope,it has let me get a gear a couple of times but every time I pick my foot off the brake it goes back into neutral - The pump primes when I get in, but it won't let me select a gear

 I couldn't even go to the chip shop

Hmmmmmm... These crazy italians.

Could the car think that the brake is on therefore keep switching the car to N? is the switch underneath the pedal?

Its a place to buy food that you can eat elsewhere:)

Brake switch, alot of selespeed/dualgic faults are down to the simple things like brake switch whose signal (pedal depressed) the autobox ECU must see before t allows gear selection.Attended a few cars 'stuck in gear' which turned out to be simple brake switch adjustment.

Start with easy to check stuff first.

But would it say 'AUTO GEARBOX FAIL' if it was just the brake switch? i'd have thought that it would be a gearbox sensor telling the ECU that something is wrong?

You can't assume anything with a Fiat LOL.
Do your brake lights stay on without pressing the pedal, there is a guide to resetting the switch for this error but not sure if it's that same process 'T' is talking about.

I had some trouble with my Selespeed shortly after buying the car. it was an intermittent fault which is probably why the person shifted the car in the first place :)

Anyway, it turned out to be an "odd gear engagement sensor" fault, which meant that i couldn't select 1st, 3rd or 5th gears and it threw up the same error message.

Are you able to select 2nd gear? You can choose it from a standing start so it would be interesting to see if it can be selected and stay in gear...

(p.s.would of spotted greggers odd gear engagement senson fault straight away)

That it did :)

You don't need to take it to Fiat to get it diagnosed, just anywhere that has Fiat's Examiner system. I took mine to John Whalley in Bishop's Stortford who are actually a Lancia and Alfa specialist.

Given you've got a problem with the Selespeed, your only option is to get it hooked up to Examiner...
