i'm hoping to pick your brains if i can, we have just purchased a 1.6 16valve 02reg door dynamic with 68000 miles. it was driving fine and needing a service when it came up with engine fault and the amber engine warning light came up???????

if poss could someone enlighten me as to what this may be, because otherwise this is a good car, very clean with toys for £1700.

Have you got any running problems with it? Does it drive ok?

geta a fault code reader, Map sensors mess up quite a bit!

Its running ok however it seems flat untill you really give it some, fuel consumption seems rubbish. i think there is a slight fart from the exhaust not sure if its the back or the front.

Best I could recommend is doing what Steely said and getting a fault code reader, which will then tell you the exact cause of the problem. From the symptoms your describing, Its difficult to suggest anything!

could be a coil.

if you can hear a fart from the exhaust then that is most likely it, get a fault code reader and have a look. my 1.6 just had this happen and the reader told me the maifold sensor was out, cleared it, new exhaust as flex pipe was gone and now shes back to the nippy car she used to be. it cost me £35 inc del for the reader, then £150 for the full exhaust system. but get the reader first just in case its something else like coil thats already been mentioned.
