Started the car this morning noticed it was sounding like it was running on 4 cylinders slight misfire, reved it up and it spluttered away. Once I drove it out and put my foot down (hoping it would clear) the Engine saftery warning came on and bleeped away therefore I stopped the car, I left the car and took the other one. Does this sound like coils ??, car has been fine, was low on fuel and I had the cambelt changed 4 weeks ago. Is it worth changing plugs and how can you tell if the coils are goosed.(n)

Thanks in Advance

I think there is a test when you remove the plug leads one at a time......when the engine does NOT change sound/revs then you've found the duff one.
There have been threads so have a search for a bit more info as I've got a Jtd

Just looked at car, coils are all Bosch, tried the pulling test all changed note bar 1, i take it this is the duff coil, changed it to another cylinder and the fault followed the duff coil, to be safe changed the plugs over to. Therefore I believe it is coil number 3 as this did not change engine noise even when changed position. Sound right ????

All sorted Bosch coil at £36 from local motor factor, cars back to running, thank god an easy fix. Many Thanks to all for the help

hi,
my stilo went mad this evening, loss of engine power and speed and fault message "Engine Fault". The engine is hopping in under the bonnet and causing a lot of vibration throughout the car. Called the AA cos i didn't know whether to drive it or not, and they towed me home advising me that it was most likely a coil pack. I have a 1.2 Stilo. Will the garage have to replace all the coils or just the faulty one? Should I have them all replaced anyway? Can any garage do it, or should i use a FIAT dealer???
Alternatively, is this easy to replace by yourself and does anyone know of an online guide to how to do it?

Dave has some for sale in this thread, really easy to change, minutes infact. Defo sound like the coil.

hi and i have been told of fiat that a coil needs replacing and it would cost 180 all fitted to which i laughed out loud which didnt go down well

then i had a look and found i could get the part for £30 or less, so how do i change it? any links to help would be great

and even though i have paid loads on this car i still refuse to buy a new one

thanks in advance

ah crap. i've just put the car into the dealers. if i had known how easy this was, i would've done it myself. its unspeakably easy. i'm being charged 100 euro for this. which i suppose isn't too bad considering the price of the parts. will definitely keep a spare one in the boot from now on though.
