General fitting a reconditioned engine

Out of interest, does anyone know roughly how much you could expect to pay for a 1.6 stilo engine and how much it would be to have fitted - reconditioned or otherwise?

I ask as i do about 380 miles a week in mine and would be relucant to let her go in future just because the engine packs up - especially if the bodywork in good nick etc?

Relating to this thread: £350 seems a good price for 1.2/1.4 would it be similar for a 1.6?

be about 600 for a 1.6 low miler with 3 month garentee.

how many miles yours done? you should get 150k miles out of it easy if kept serviced

Yeah i read mate, i'm sorry to hear that. you must be gutted and you really should be entitled to a refund or if you prefer some money back on that as it was incorrectly advertised. Was it private sale or from a business?

Luckily mine has only done about 47000 miles but thats really good know that it should be good for 150,000. i'm doing approximately 1500 miles a month so towards the end of the engines life it could be feasible to consider fitting replacement. I have always wanted a Stilo (with Abarth kit) I therefore cannot see myself wanting to let her go if i could change the engine.

Do you know how much someone would fit the new engine for? is it very labour intensive?

its a lot of work, then you have to find some one you can trust to do it, there not many of them out there it seems.
you done your timing belt yet? i always advise 40k miles or 4 years for a 16v no matter what book says

Funny you should ask that....it was done today for £198 all in (not at a Fiat dealership though!). I have no service history with the car when i bought it (i got it very cheap). I couldn't take a chance with not getting this done so i'm very relieved its out of the way.

if you look around you can get one from a scrappy for about £300, or thats what i got quoted when i was looking for one anyway, that was with about 40-50k iirc

Once the car gets to the point of needing a new engine I would imagine it will be feeling quite tired in other areas too... steering, suspension, upholstry

Plus at 18k miles a year you're looking at another 6 years - that'll be a tired car by then and not worth the cost of a new engine.
