Technical judder when accelerating

Technical judder when accelerating

Starving fuel? Have you replaced the air/fuel filters recently? Could be a camshaft sensor playing up. You getting any error messages?

service due in 5k. it doesnt seem to do it all the time so wouldnt think it is suspension/wheel related.

it feels like its towing when i try and floor it and judders through the chassis. im assuming its the engine as it goes away after 2.5k rpm?? also noticed today it is smoking again.

Its just unburnt fuel, i have the same problem on mine. Im not sure why its causing a judder though....

I normally notice it when i accelerate hard in the dark and notice the smoke in the cars lights from behind.

My oil level isnt droping, doing about 50mpg and its running smoothly (touch wood).

Nothing to worry about, it does it on most diesels. My old Xsara HDi (which was running on full synthetic and with only 60k miles) was doing the same. Just diesel.

It helps parking on the flat to avoid smoke on start up.

My drive shaft spline went last Friday, with the same symtoms.
Its been in the garage for over a week and they still havent got the part.
Its going to cost about £210 to repair - an independant garage, not a dealership.
The bloke at the garage told me it is a common fault if larger wheels are fitted to the car - I have the same wheels as you.
The new part (when I get it) has been modified and is stronger.

John.

I've had he same problem for a while now, only when accelerating hard though. Mine's not a diesel though although it does have bigger wheels fitted. :(

what size wheels you got? you normally should be ok fitting the next size up (probably 18's maximum on a Stilo)

yeah exactly and 17's can be standard fit on stilos anyway so the extra size shouldn't make a difference. I'd understand that if it was a chavved Fiesta for example with 17's on, LOL

ok, well I'm going to add to the mix here. I know that this is a diesel started thread and I don't want to hijack, but since I've had my timing done, occasionally, when driving at speed mine judders.

It's like if you were riding a pushbike and the chain were to slip, your legs go round still but the wheels slow a little... only the revs don't go up any..

it's bizarre.

well i thought there was no point starting a new thread.

when on the motorway doing around 60 if i just give light throttle i get judder through the steering wheel?

how would i find out if the judder is engine based or steering based?

Yep; put in 1st and try to rotate wheel back and forth.

If it knocks real bad then this might be a clue although even a good drive shaft will knock a bit. Best to compare one side with the other.

The trouble is you might need to apply a lot of torque before you even notice a problem (read JohnSturman's post)
