Has anyone come across a Stilo(1.8 dynamic)which idles poorly(doesnt cut out)going from 700-1500 rpm up & down constantly? Infact when driving slowly you can feel the car surge slightly then stop then surge again etc?
Another thing I have noticed is if I take my foot of the throttle the car keps going, slows down but never actually stops? Had the car scanned but no error codes, possible throttle body or reset the ECU?
Thanks:)

I have noticed that idle thing in my 1.8 MW, but it only happens rarely.
Try to re-teach the idle motor. I havent had time (lazy...) to try that.

I've had a similar problem some time ago. Since the throttle is automatic and it's not connected by a cable like in the past the fuel dosage butterfly is operated electricly. The problem is that it accumulates some residues arround it, making it inacurate, and when ecu evaluates its position the value isn't the expected so it makes corrections. Since the movement is slown down by the residues then in the next avaliation the butterfly isn't again where its suposed to be, inducting again in an error, and over 'n over again...
What you have to do is to clean it. I don't know how to do this since my dealers service cleaned it for me.

Hope it helps.

Yes, I have this happen to me all the time. I also have a lumpy idle, meaning that the car almost sounds like a JTD at startup. I can feel the surges but as for the car just going and going without stopping, that is thanks to the heavy flywheel, which has a lot of momentum. Pretty useful in parking lots [8D]. Oh, yeah, the car keeps going at 750 rpm in 2nd and even 3rd, so it´s definately not the drive-by-wire thingy.

Be aware that on 1st gear any variance in fuel injected will make a huge diference compared to an upper gear.
Also notice that electronic injection cars are made to don't die when idle. When you shift 1st gear and lift the clutch pedal up slowly you notice the car accelerate it self to keep it running and not to go off.
So as I said before this minor changes in injection make a huge difference to lumpy idle.

Got it,disconnected battery & left for 15mins then reconnect & let idle for 15mins,turn off & leave for 5 mins then tried it & it ran perfect, good steady idle & no surging:D

The other slightly quicker way is to disconnect the negative terminal hold it against the positive for about 30 seconds. Reconnect, turn ignition on for 30 secs then off for 30 seconds Then start. No other way of discharging e.c.u on the Hitachi ignition system. Only Other thing I can think of that would cause similar fault is the advance variator oil feed plunger stuck down! Easy fix unbolt free plunger and refit.

hi all.my stilo been to fiat now three times for bad idling, revs going mad 0 too 2000,and stalling at lights.hard to park, and drive in traffic queues.
had the same problem with my tempra then they changed the throttle control unit, but my dealer seems to ignore this. HELP..
