Afternoon Gents,

Am new here so go easy!

Bought an 03 Stilo last May and so far had no probs, but the Mrs was driving it to the tip the other day and the Engine Failure light flashed on and teh thing staretd beeping at me. We parked up and I turned the engine over again and it fired up but the beeping started again and the Engine failure light lit up. I managed to get the car home although when idling the revs sounded up and down and some of the power had gone out of the engine (1.6 Dynamic).

Got on to the garage anyway and its booked in tomorrow but the garage is 14 miles away and was wondering is it safe to drive in this condition and if I do drive it up there am I going to damage something, or should I just ring Green Flag tomorrow and get them to tow it up there?

Cheers

Welcome here! Pretty sure this may be well covered in the Stilo section, did you try the "Search" function? Personally I would Green Flag it just in case. Sure its Engine Failure not Airbag Failure?

Yeah have had the airbag failure and know what happens with that one. This flashed up the Engine Failure (or soemthing to that effect) on the display and then the car started running funny!

Airbag wouldnt fit in with the "running funny anyhow

The Stilo Massive will probably be able to advise, personally I would Green Flag it.

Just had the problem; manual gives information on 2 types of fault, read up on that. Had the message from the computer which cleared immediately and then the yellow engine light stayed on. According to the local garage I use it was a fuel map error on the ecu. I told my wife to stop just using supermarket fuel. I've jammed some Redex in now and the garage has cleared the fault so we'll see how it goes.

Didn't have any performance problems that we were aware of and fuel economy was normal so I'm hoping it was as simple as that. (y)(y)

Hi, think this is a bit late but what the heck.

Sounds like it could be either a sensor type fault (I'm guessing the intake air pressure / temp sensor or the lamba sensor)

or

It could be a sparkplug / coil problem, had this on a clio 1.4 where the coil would pack in leaving the engine running on 3 cylinders, all four eventually went before we moved the car on (still renault wouldn't admit the design flaw). Not to difficult to fix new coil was about 30-40 quid.
