hi still getting about 2 or 3 secs of slightly smelly blue smoke on start up in my jtd 16v multijet.ive had car about 4 months now and its done it since having it most mornings.seems to be worse when parked on my steep drive pointing down hill.am going to get oil changed soon as no idea what oil went in on last service(9,500 miles at a dealers but not fiat) before i bought it,only coming up to 14,000 miles now.i dont think its turbo related as its only on start up even had it rolling roaded and was surprised it didnt smoke at all even when thrashed on the rr and never noticed any smoke on booting on road.could injectors be leaking a tiny bit of fuel into cylinders when resting.?its still in warranty so will fiat have to do oil change?will they refuse to do it as earlier than necessary?will they only use selenia wr as would like to try castrol edge or mobil 1 to see if it quietens down the tick over tap?

Blue smoke is oil related and is probably caused by parking your car on a steep slope. Oil will sit on the top of the engine and seep past the valve guides. Try parking it on a flat overnight and see if the same thing happens. It could be a blocked oil return that is causing the problem also. Worth flushing when you get the oil changed. If its not doing it on a permanent basis, I would wager its not terminal.

i park my car overnight at home facing downhill on a steep drive, and when i start it up some mornings, it smokes a bit

when i start it up on a flat though it seems to start fine with minimal smoke.

unless the smoke is really thinck, or it does it all the time, i see it as nothing to worry about ;)

It should not do that. It will be an oil seal somewhere starting to leak, be it turbo or valve guide. Could also be a crank case breather problem. Tell Fiat you want it fixed as it will more than likely get worse as time goes on. My 8 valve JTD does not smoke, even with 104,000 miles on the clock. Yours should be the same.

have been using millers sport 4 so will give it a few tanks of normal diesel incase they sample it and blame that.will do another 1000 miles and il book it in for an oil and filter change and get them to check it out.willtry to get a video if my camera does clips

called in dealers today to order some oil n filter etc, was surprised to find they had none in stock!one dealer phoned next nearest dealer and they had none either.i know this selinia wr is expensive but surely they keep stock for their services?or im i being suspicious thinking they use another oil even though they specify wr.was plenty of selinia k on the shelves.

Do these fuel additives actually work? I mean really?

just a precaution,as its already suffered with swirl flap sticking in inlet manifold, crud or design flaw?which is deffinately not helped by exhaust fumes going back into inlet manifold also egr cruding up will eventually cause problems.not for performance its for prevention,if it reduces smoke and gives extra lubrication for pump and injectors im happy, still works out cheaper than filling up with excellium or v power.

Makes far more sense to spend the cost of the additives on buying a better oil in first place surely.

I'll never forget how one can of STP wrecked a 800cc Honda engine of mine in just 100 miles

I was referring to fuel additives, not oil additives. Millers Sport 4 is a diesel fuel additive. Supposed to improve economy and clean your engine etc.

I get what you are saying about oil additives though. More damage than good in most cases.

just done a 12 hour shift in work car driven to work so shouldnt have been any residual oil, parked dead level, started car 5 hours later voila no smoke but started it to leave work and still blue smoke.will this narrow down causes as wouldn't have thought oil sat that deep in cylinder head to still leak down seals when flat?if blocked oilway would a flush shift it?do fiat flush during their oil changes?

should have seen crap out my mums merc today :yuck:

everytime she even used the accelerator, we got covered in crap behind her, so i overtook her to avoid it :D

Seems to be a little bit worse then what my car is, then again i havent ever seen the back of my car

my mum and dads car shoots out a bonfire when its starts up

can be worse than that, thats how i first noticed on frosty mornings started car from leaning in ready to scrape windows and saw cloud drifting past me.now i seem to watch for it in mirrors every time i start it.
