I was offered the opportunity by GSR/Red Dot Racing to rolling road my standard 1.8 Stilo, fit their own induction kit, then rolling road it again. TBH I didn't know much about them and was sceptical at first but was told that if there was no power increase or i didn't like it, it would be taken off and the Rolling Road tests would be free of charge. Now understanding all rolling roads are different, the tests would give rough figures for the original and after BHP readings but the difference made by the induction kit itself would be spot on. I went down today with a few mates and met Peter the guy I was liasing with and we were there the entire time as they completed the work. The car was put on the rig and the first run gave a reading of 139 BHP! Knowing that it is stated as 133 BHP I knew this was high so they did it again straight away and produced the same 139.6 BHP. TBF it was a very cold day and the engine was loving it but still, 139 BHP?!? Next the kit was put on, they left it on the rolling road for this so it would definately be set up the same, taking out the air boxes was a mission to say the least but the kit developed originally for the same Punto HGT engine fitted in fine. They then ran the test again, and it gave 145 BHP! The car was run again and it gave 149.4 BHP! The engine's got to learn the new set up and so will adjust better as time goes on but prob won't improve much more. Now even if the BHP values are optimistic, the gain is for definite, that's 10 BHP! Not only that but on the drive home, we dropped one of my mates off and drove past to see what it sounds like and under load it has a wicked growl! It's fairly subtle but it's noticeable enough to know there's an induction kit there. I've got the print outs from both before and after the kit and couldn't recommend the service peter and Augusto gave me more highly. They specialise in italian cars and we met a guy while we were there in the process of properly tuning his Alfa 147 GTA. Peter was helping with that aswell. The guy had had a barchetta in the past and was an italian fan. Again thanks to Peter at GSR known on here as "oldschool" and i'd advise him as an alternative to the BMC, K & N etc induction kits already on the market. I'm sure if anyone was interested he'd get a price list up but as mine was a special agreement we settled differently i'm not sure what he'd charge.

Re: Rolling Road & Induction Kit

I know there can be differences from each rolling road, but i have heard of several Punto HGT (with the same 1,8 16V egine as the Stilo) producing more power than the normal 133bhp. Some has been measured as high as 145bhp without any modifications, so perhaps Fiat is a bit conservative when stating how much bhp that particular engine has.
The 1,6 16V engine in the Stilo has also been known to produce more bhp than what Fiat states it has (standard 103bhp, been measured as high as 110bhp).

I won't comment on the induction kit, as i haven't had one on any of my cars, just saying that many engines produce more (some alot more) bhp than the car maker claims it has.
So 139bhp from your engine without any mods is not unlikely.
Just out of interest, how much torque does you 1,8 have now?

Now you go out and enjoy the result (and the extra bhp) :D

Re: Rolling Road & Induction Kit

Good to know you took my advice on the induction kit them... OMG 149bhp... WOW! How much will i get as im gona hav a remap, manifold and exhaust system aswell! I didnt expect the gains to be anywere near as good as that i was finkin more along the lines of 4/5bhp!

Re: Rolling Road & Induction Kit

Same here, I didn't think the gains would be quite as good but if you think about how restrictive the original air boxes are, it makes more sense. The torque values weren't so great as the BHP readings. It's quoted in fiat literature as 116 ft-lb but in the first run as standard it only gave 107.4 however the kit brought it up to 115.8 ft-lb so about as quoted. I didn't mention earlier it shifted the peak power up a couple of hundred revs from 6250 to 6450 but the torque give a steady gain straight through the range which is good.

I can't absoulutely confirm this but i'm pretty sure the 1.8 Stilo is sold in Spain as a 138bhp. I remember this 'cause when i bought my multijet (140bhp) i thought the power was the same as the 1.8 so i looked at both. So maybe Fiat UK are more conservative with the stated power, maybe the engines have more trouble in english wether???? (though i would have thought cold wether would benefit an engine once it's warm)

Re: Rolling Road & Induction Kit

Interesting results and more than I would expect from just an induction kit. Question is how much would it cost to have one applied in a similar fashion (i.e. with before and after dynos) to a 1.6? If anyone could give me an idea that would be great. Will check the insurance angle out then too!

Re: Rolling Road & Induction Kit

the GSR induction that is be mention, its built persificly for the 1.8 engine block and is wot you would say at the top end of the market! Its cost £183, which is a tad more than a bmc cda? and cud buy you about 3 K&N's for that lol :D but its worth every penny of it, as proved above!

I dont know if they make 1 for your varient mate? But you could get a bmc cda for £150? (y)

Stilo Rolling Road shootout / Tuning day...inc 1.6 remap

rrstilo.jpg
 This is one for all the STILO MASSIVE!
I've been talking to Pete GSR lately about the much anticipated 2.4 induction kits and it looks like they'll be ready next week some time! WOO HOO! (Think they'll cost around £180 talking to Pete?)
When they are ready, we will be heading North for a Rolling Road and live re-map session.
SO....
What I thought might be interesting would be to see just how many Stilo guy's (or girls) might wanna come along and make a day of it?
Along the lines of a shootout maybe..
If you're interested please PM Oldschool about the cost of re-map&rolling road (I believe this will be around £200 for the both.
Also he has said he could bring some more Induction kits if enough interest..
Not just the 2.4 kits.. PM him if you're interested.
I'd be hoping to do this in the next month at the most really so please add yourselves to the list ONLY if you really are serious about coming as there will only be enough time in the day for between 10-15 cars..
I'll start the list below and please add yourselvesor PM me..
This is a serious idea that I'd love to turn into a bit of fun aswell as the tuning aspects...

Please add with similar details...

Kubi 2.4 Induction + Rolling Road&Re-map

Yeah about £400 (I will confirm with Pete for def later)

I believe its around Birmingham..

Did you get a new engine or just a rebuild mate?

Re: Stilo Rolling Road shootout / Tuning day...

ive found an engine for £800 delivered from n.ireland. with 10k mileage. Rebuild is way to difficult to do due to lack of oversized bearings, and shortage of new cranks. I'm lead to believe.

so if all is well, then count me in, will let you know for definite within 2 weeks, if thats ok? (y)

Re: Stilo Rolling Road shootout / Tuning day...

Mmmmmmm I'm sure I have seen that car [up there] somewhere before ;) I might come along just for the hell of it and hopfully to meet some of you guys only 84Mls from me and took me only an hour to get home after the work had been done :D

Re: Stilo Rolling Road shootout / Tuning day...

If its only around brum i might pop over, just to meet you guys not for the work if thats ok
