ok bit of an update here...

the transformation is magic! i am more than happy with the system 2 kit. i did have my doubts, especially at that price, but it is fantastic. car now solidly 'thuds' over bumps as opposed to crashing and ratling, there is NO noticeable body movement under braking, accelerating or cornering. the ride is just as cosseting as it always was, no noticable difference there.

i was realy wierd when i first drove it because there was no body movement when i changed gears or braked hard :D it just felt really awkward lol

overall well inpressed.

still lots of clearence left even with a 40mm drop running 18" wheels.

only problem now is tracking. noone can do it because the bolts are seized, ATS wanted to fit new track rod ends, but someone else (The Hub, Alignment Specialist, Broadway, Cardiff) is having a look at it tomorrow, and he reckons he can do it no problem ;)

Interesting report (y)

Why do you say -40mm

I thought it was quoted as -30mm

Have you actually measured the drop ?

Tracking is very important as you can be certain you're now driving with quite heavy tow-out which will wear your tyres in no time.

it is quoted as a 40mm drop, sorry if i miss typed that.

i'll give it time to settle then measure it and take pictures.

and i will get the tracking sorted asap.

difference now though arg is phenominal (y)

just had a long argument now with fiat uk. they will not pay anything towards the broken spring situation. basically they put it down to a number of reasons:

- i did not purchase the car brand new from fiat.
- i did not purchase the car from the fiat network.
- the car is outside the warranty.
- the recall was to only fit the cups and not to change the springs regardless of the situation.
- my mileage is too high (83k)
- i am more or less not a loyal customer (i have not paid a lot of money within the fiat network)

they are not aware of ANY stilo that has had multiple replacements (im sure bombay on FF has? phill), and they told me that NOTHING will change their decision, whatever i say.

now for those of you who have had replacement springs paid for by fiat, did you buy the car brand new? and how do you stand regarding the above points.

oh, and on another note, on the original springs that were taken off, the offside front was the one that had broken, and there was excessive corrosion on the nearside front and offside rear. on the front springs its mostly on the bottom, or the rear spring its nearer to the top.
and they werent interested in that at all

forgot to add to the points above:

- springs, as like any other part, are liable to corrode and fail, and they cant warrant it forever....

corrode and fail after 5 years though?

and they said, at the point of fitting the recall cups to my car (about 9 months ago) they would have checked the condition of the springs.

if they were fine, would 9 months and 7k miles break them?

:bang:

You can't tell if a spring is about to fail by looking at it. You would have to x-ray the spring.
By the way this is not a unique Fiat problem. My wifes 2003 Citroen C3 recently suffered a broken spring. They too are fitted with spring retainers to catch broken springs.

Very common I think you'll find.

My rear springs were actually worse than the front (mine never broke as I replaced them anyway)

It looks as though they dont like us welsh owners and you have had the same shabby treatment just as I did ..they wouldnt pay LC.motors for the work they did for me on the one spring either when they said go to your dealer and get an inspection and spring change if needed..so they crapped on them as well from a great height one thing is for sure if ever I do decide to change my car in the foreseeable future I wont be buying another fiat ..my panda is a great little car but its been a learning curve owning a fiat and seeing the bad way they treat their customers ..we all know now that fiat will never come clean with the issues of the stilo and its badly designed suspension ..they did with the multipla but they are standing firm on this one ..not good for the brand image but I dont think they really care and have the attitude that there are always mugs out there that will buy their cars (n) how long before the worm turns that is the question :chin:

I think you are being a bit hard on Fiat, PNL. I know its annoying when you dont get what you think you deserve by way of manufacturer support but we've had fiats for years (38 years in my case) and I can quote two instances when Fiat have acted above the norm: In a Tipo we had recalls to replace what I would have considered service items on a car 4 years old. On a Punto Mk1 we had a recall on a car which was 7 years old and again on an item I would consider normal wear and tear. I would agree with you that the stilo has had its fair share of problems and I admit mine has been the worst Ive had for warranty claims. My car has now done 118k and I still have the original springs BUT Ive had a few shock absorbers although these were before warranty expired.

i just didnt like their attitude, just because i didnt buy the car from new, or from within the network, doesnt mean i should be treated like that. i wasnt looking for a full payout. but after a certain dealer quoted me that if the car was up to 5 years old they would have got confirmation from area manager for 2 new springs and labour, because they had done it before. i put my claim in 10 days after my cars 5th birthday and they would have none of it, what a bummer eh :bang: especially when all the work i have done is within the network. i paid over the odds for my cambelt, when the £150 fiatcare change was in practice, i paid £69 for the tentioner pulley, which was a recall item on the JTD engine, granted it was for another car, but still i paid for it. and everytime you pay £40 to be hooked onto examiner for 5 minutes. the service light wasnt even reset on my last service a few weeks ago!

fiat NEED an improved customer base, hence they NEED to start treating their existing ones better.

:yeahthat: I could not agree more ..

I have had NSF spring repalced at 3 year point (1st MOT failure) and OSF replaced at 4 year point (2nd MOT failure) it's now due it's 3 rd MOT (5 year old) dread to think what's wrong this time.

Got diddly squat out of FIAT for either spring change.

FIAT F*****G Italian Automotive Trash.

I've just had my 2nd set of rear wheel bearings replaced, 1st lot were done under warranty, along with the rear suspension bushes..now got a hell of a vibration from NSF wheel when under power over 60 MPH.:bang:

Wife's 5dr Stilo has comnpletely died, engine turns over but will not start...only had it 2 months sounds like Immobiliser problem, can't afford to reapir so vehicle being declared SORN until cash flow situation gets better.
