Technical Ouch!

...its a 30mm to 40mm drop with uprated gas shocks.
You need to be sure it's no more than 30mm (same as Eibach) or you could be into major clearance problems :(

Believe me it was pure joy getting back to standard after being stuck at something like 40mm down at the front for 6 months :bang:

in all honesty i wasnt looking for anything from fiat. i bought the car a year ago knowing that i'd probably have a broken spring or two at some point

I've replied to this post on PS as well - you simply must get in touch with Fiat customer services and getthem to sort it out for you. It is clearly a well known problem which many of us have suffered and you should not under any circumstances simply accept these things happen :bang:

Get complaining (y)

i cant be botherd ham, im having really bad times at the moment failing uni and with family problems. i was looking at changing the suspension setup anyway, so im not really going to gain anything from hassling fiat uk. the only thing that could have been useful was waving the labour costs on fitting the springs, then i would have got them to fit aftermarket springs. spoke to them and they said they only garantee work on genuine fiat parts, and besides, i'd have to make a fuss to get the labour costs in the first place, which i really cant be bothered to do.

looks like i'll be spending a quite a bit of my british dollars :yuck:

If you'll excuse me saying this view makes little sense if you're really strapped for cash.

Sure, there's no way you'll get non- Fiat springs fitted for free but if you offer to pay for after-market dampers then you just might just pull it off (I did say might).

To throw away the chance of getting new springs supplied & fitted for free just seems crazy to me.

I've seen my local Fiat garage (not a dealer) do it for a customer without any hassle at all.

I'd try another garage.

got a case number with fiat head office now.

another dealer said if the car was less than 5 years old, they would have changed both front springs straight away under the good will policy. as it is over 5 years, i'd have to go through fiat care head office

just to mention, dealer said if car was 5 years old or less, claim would have gone through area manager here, and got done asap.

well i just checked my logbook, date of first regestration:

10/1/03....................................5 years 10 days! :bang :bang :bang

happy late birthday estella

The dealers can say what they like, no disrespect and all. Fiat, although not publically admitting it, are well aware there is a problem. They have 2 options, fit spring free as a gesture of goodwill (which they're prone to do) or, should you decide to be pushy, face public/small claims court. I know the issue of the springs is well documented on the forum and I still cannot understand why people have been charged.
I suppose it is down to your relationship with your dealer more than anything else.

ok, from my conversations with fiat it looks like they will pay to change 2 front springs & labour :)

problem is, no dealer wants to touch aftermarket springs, so i cannot get eibach springs fitted at fiats cost (just the labour).

i dont know what to do ???

how do fiat pay up? do they pay me after i've paid and sent them the invoice, do they send me vouchers to use with the dealership, or do they credit the dealership straight away?

Dealer should bill fiat directly, but ensure that fiat have spoken with the dealer and authorised the dealer to do it and clarify it with both parties. A lot of 'we never agreed that' goes on.

Steve

fiat have just called me saying that they will NOT pay anything towards my car. they say that replacing the springs has nothing to do with the recall, my car has too high a mileage to be covered by the good will procedure (83k?), and that they are unaware of ANY stilo's that that they have paid for the springs to be replaced.

so could i please have names, mileages and case numbers for people who HAVE HAD their springs replaced by fiat.

:bang: woman who rang me was a total b**ch, basically saying that im stupin in thinking that the recall has anything to do with replacing the springs

I concur with Wing.

I've even seen the bills supplied to customers by my local Fiat specialist and the cost of the springs & fitting is shown as zero (y)

What's important is that the dealer/garage gets authorization from Fiat Head Office before they start the job. Assuming it's accepted then they shouldn't charge you a penny.

I can't comment on what happens if you try to include Eibach springs into the equation.

argo, what do you think of my last post.

i need customer names, mileages, and case numbers.

that woman was really rude
You could search the Forum and PM everyone who's had springs changed. I did a couple of public POLLS so you could get loads of members from those.

Once you've found someone you could then get back to Fiat UK but make sure you speak to someone higher up the chain.

I that fails then you could always take the legal route (small claims would cost you £30) but you need to keep in mind all this is a waste of time if you only want Eibachs fitted anyway.

Good luck (y)

1) i just want my car fixed for the time being, im stuck without it.

2) i wasnt really fussed about fiat paying up anything, but after that rude woman, im really going to heat things up.

yesterday i spoke to 3 people, 2 in the uk and one in italy. they were very nice, polite and knowledgeable, and said that they were aware of issues regarding the stilo springs, and hopefully fiat would replace them under good will. all i had to do was go through the proper route of filing a case with fiat.

that woman today though, grrrrrr. she denied everything, she even tried to tell me that im not aware of why the recall was done :bang: very rude mannar of talking.

i love fiat as everyone here knows, i've always supported them, converted lots of people into buying fiats, and even trying to set up my own dealership overseas.

You should probably feel sorry for her.

Most likely some obese woman who's husband walked out on her just the other week. :slayer:

Why not phone again and simply demand to talk to her supervisor. If she gets funny then demand her name & position and then put a complaint letter in the post to the management.

sod fiat,

just spoken to kevin at proven products and he told me about a system 2 kit that they do. its made in the uk for them and apparently very good. its £269.

what do you guys think? i know some of you have dealt with proven products and highly recommend them
