my heated drivers seat decided to stop working a few days ago??? but the passenger one workes fine, has any one had a problem with this???

I have checked the fuse and its good (apart from the fact its in the tightest compartment i have ever seen in the boot behind the break lights !!!)

any ideas ??? is this common...

Well as its heated it must have some kind of heater element so that would be my first port off call i think :chin:

Old thread. Look at the date. His arse will be frozen in Stavanger if he hasn't fixed it by now:)

Im still alive, i have defrosted a bit now, its still is not working, funny this thread just came back to life as i just swaped the drivers passengers switch around to see if it was the switch (2 days ago), it is not. and deffo not the fuse, its just odd that it stoped working, i think there maybe a broken wire somewhere, but i have looked and i cant find any damage?

Proof in the pudding, no thread is too old ...

Ha! Have you checked the heater element for open circuit ie break in the wiring? With a multi meter select resistance and see what resistance you get through the heating element in the seat. Should be very low resistance. Infinite resistance would be open circuit - that is - broken heater

Come on! It'll be summer soon and you won't need it:)

eeeeeeeeerm , this is norway...summer....i dont think so:D:D:D:D

Aww I've had some nice summers in Norway, even the winters are more pleasant than here.Must be time to put up the skis soon:)

Does the seat switch led light up if you have one?

Have you checked both the fuses by the way, (there's 3 altogether
F52 15A for main feed for both seats but that one's ok if passeneger seat heater is working)
and
F57 and F67 for each seat -both 10A

yup, checked all fuses, yes passanger seat works, and the 2x 10amp in the tiny boot space are fine, i have even swapped them around to see if it is a duff fuse, no change......

yes it lights up, and i have checked the swithches with a multi meter and they are fine...

Ha! How come you Norwegians and Swedes always have such a nice tan:)
Ok if power's getting through to the switch then it has to be open circuit so heater element or bad earth. Time for the multi meter:cool:

Yep had this problem on all three of our stilo's in the family and its a dead easy fix!
Basically take the seat base cover of by peeling it back. You should now see a grey coloured cover over the foam rubber. Feel around at the back of this/underneath there should be a small metal thing with wires on it ( the thermostat for the seat). This is usually where the wire breaks. Stick your finger in the hole in the foam rubber and pull the rest of the wire back up through the seat. Just get a soldering iron and some solder and put them back together. Tape them up to stop short circiut and the job is done.
Now try the seat. You should have anice warm backside again.(y)(y)
I was uttedwhen mine stopped working and it turned out to be this and then it happened on my dads and then on my sisters. We went straight to the problem on the second one!
I reckon that the wire breaks due to the seat being moved backwards and forwards.
I cant live without them(y)(y)

could you explain in more detial how you do it?
Would i be cheaky to ask for some pictures????

Unfortunately I didn't take any pics ( NOTE FOR EXT TIME)but it really is dead easy. Peel back the cover on the seat base. its a little awkward but it will peel back, start at the front of the seat. You should now see the foam seat base in all its glory. The heating eliment is the grey felt like material. Push your hand between this and the foam seat. Right at the back of the seat you should feel the small sensor with wires on it. just take hold of it and pull it up gently. . This is usually where the wire breaks. Just reconnect the wires with solder or some kind of terminals.. After this recover the seat and thats it done. Takes about 15mins to do the whole job. P.S the seat cover is held down with Velcro in the grooves. Make sure you seperate them as you peel the cover back and dont just pull it away from the foam rubber.(y)(y)

That does seam easy, i will check it out tonight, and let you know...

Nice One! The sensor you are looking for?can't miss it really its the size of a penny! Hope it works for ya, I know what its like in UK without heated seats so in your country it must be hell! They are sooooooo nice! Keep me informed, any trouble I will try to help you out with some more advice:);):)

Had the same problem and tried your solution. It indeed was a broken wire. The worst part was peeling back the cover, also forgot about the Velcro, but looking OK again and working. THANK YOU so much! Living above polar circle so heated seat is quite a necessity.
