When you say you replaced all to get rid of it .. What did all consist off ??

Cheers

The Fiat Dealers never said ! & i never asked !! Doh.. They just said that the P0235 relates to a Boost issue & that they have even replaced Turbo's to cure this

You need the parameters associated with this fault! Just because it says boost sensor or rpm sensor etc etc it doesn't mean thats the fault. This is the problem with diag equipment in inexperienced staff of generic code readers.
Example how main people here have changed a airflow meter when infact the fault was EGR valve? ....yet no EGR fault displayed yet a airflow meter error is.

I have to agree there, Most garage employee's are just Fitters now & lack the oldie worldie Skills !!

Well today my car went to the garage - only symptoms were low mpg (35ish) and lots of smoke.

After booking it in at 8.30, they swiftly got round to it after lunch, obviously..

The P0235 fault code came up, but they werent sure if it was recent or had been linked to the error code recently, which was due to a leaking pipe. They checked everything - egr, maf etc and didnt find anything wrong. They then updated the ECU, and sent me on my way with a slightly lighter wallet.

Everything seems ok, not as much smoke, but then its difficult to tell when its not night and im not on the Motorway, and it averaged 47.5 over 3 miles - half of that was 30mph and the rest was blasting down country lanes.

We shall see if its better on the M5 later in the week.

They advised me that if the symptoms remain then I would need to replace the boost pressure sensor.

Not sure if thats an educated guess by a machine, or a common sense guess by a man who knows what he's doing.

Will keep you posted!

Well that didnt work!!

Averaged 42mpg doing 80mph on the way home - a bit better that my journey from Taunton to Oxford, but its still smoking loads under any acceleration and when I lift off the throttle at abour 80mph.

Fustratingly, as i've been darting around the country, I cant take it back to JCS in Kegworth, so am going to a dealer in Plymouth on Thursday. Will show them the fault code report - see what they say, but I know they're going to charge me for a plug in to their computer again....

Makes me kind of wish I'd bought a Golf!!! (And I know thats blasphemous!)

It does get you down when you think the car is better & then find out it is not !!! The last thing i replaced on mine was the EGR Valve £53.49 for a reconditioned unit from Fiat. After that i could not get the fault to come back & it drove well, I then sold it & have bought a Vectra CDti 150 Estate, So even more blasphemous, Well almost, It still has the Jtd power plant :D

Just been out and cleaned my MAP sensor and bingo the fault has gone. Just get this sorted once and for all then I too am letting the Stilo go.

Thats good news Bozzy, Hopefully the cheaper alternative & you will find your perfect motor ..

My own fault really for going cheap in the first place. Absolutely love the car when it's working but the confidence in it's reliability is just not there. Minor faults I know but the scary bit is the ineptitude of the delaers/techs and christ knows I've tried a few now (including JCS where I bought the car from). I get a car allowance of £450 a month so my own fault trying to make my money work better for me. Thing is I went with the Stilo because my car allowance paid for the mortgage!.

All my engineers (14) have the Vectra Cdti's and yes it's a great engine but they are off the road more than they are on it. Hope yours is a good one.

Going Japanese in the summer.

Only time will tell with the reliability of the car !! & i meant the cheaper alternative by cleaning the Map sensor, Rather than paying £53 for a new one :D Not the whole car being the cheaper alternative !!!

so your stilo diagnostics are over then dean? i really should get my new egr fitted. it in the boot at the minute.

Hi Stilosporting.

Well, Over on the Fiat & just begun on the Vectra !!
The engine setup is exactly the same, except vauxhall mounted the overboost valve high up to start with !! They must of already experienced the UK's Fine weather !! :D
