Seems I only messaged on here when there is a problem, which I admit is quite rude but unfortunately won’t change as the Stilo is going after this.

To keep it short, the fiat garage has told me that my clutch has gone. Its £603 to fit a new one. I have found a cheaper place (Auto Centre) which was £475 all in.

However I spoke to a specialist that works by himself and he said although it wouldn’t be cost effective to fit it himself, he advised me that it isn’t an overly difficult job.

Only problem is I can’t find a cheap stockist of a clutch kit, does anyone know one?! And before people ask for questions, the garage is non part descript, all they said was “clutch”. So I’m guessing I need a kit of some sorts

I don’t want to bore you with the details of this latest string of events, buts let’s just say I’m never going back to SGM Fiat again, and never owning a fiat.

INFORMATION:
52 Plate, 1.6 16V 3 Door Hatchback Dynamic

Oh, and it's black! :p

did fiat quote include a flywheel ? in the old days of fiat ownership you never need to replace them but now with dual mass flywheels i`m not sure. diesel engine would require one but a petrol , i don`t know?

Flywheel should be ok unless the plate is so warn the rivets have scored the flywheel ..fingers crossed it hasnt ..

Defiantly fingers crossed it hasn't!

I've had to go to Camberly Auto factors today as they are the closest and cheapest that have them in stock. Need to get the car done today as FIAT cant get me a courtesy car until Wednesday and SHOCK HORROR!!! Surprisingly I need the car between now and then!

Don't suppose anyone has a guide or the technical drawings they could email to me?

Drop the drive shaft and a few other "minor"* jobs?

*Sarcasm.

You will need to drop both shafts ..drain the oil from the box ..disconect any gear linkages/ starter motor/ /wires / hydraulic line ie slave cylinder from the box and once you have disconnected all the bits and bobs you can undo all the bolts around the bell housing of the gearbox.. now before you remove the old cover [pressure plate ] have a look to see if its fitted a certain way because many of them are so you need to make a note of that .. you can unbolt the cover and expose the clutch plate then once again making a mental note of the way its fitted because if it goes back on in reverse it will not operate at all ..you will need an alignment tool to make sure the plate and cover are dead centre and if they are not the first motion shaft on the gearbox wont engage correctly through the plate and into the centre of the flywheel and you wont get the box back in place ..once you get it in place you just need to assemble all the bits and bobs back on and don't forget to refill the gearbox with oil ..don't know if your replacing the thrust bearing but if you are you need to do that before fitting the back back in place ..that's located inside the bell housing and over the first motion shaft of the box..false economy not to do this while the gearbox is out and will need to be all stripped out again if it goes at a later date :bang:

Words cannot express how much hatred I have for Fiat and anything/one Italian right now.

Everything is either rusted and therefore breaks, it rusted up so much we cant undo it, or impossible to get to because of the numerous brackets, pipes, wires and connectors! :bang:

I'm already going to have to buy a replacement reversing light switch since it broke because it wouldn't come out! All but two of the clips that hold the under body on have broken due to rust. The air filter box has two clips on, rusted to buggery... :bang:

I think that when Larda's are sent to the scrappies because of rust, Fiat by the metal and use it to make their cars.

Thinking about putting all the rusted broken parts in a box and dumping it on Technical's desk first thing Monday walking.

After walking up there of course!

so...... what's the update nowimboard?

Update? :cry::cry::cry:

Gave up last night as me and my dad nearly died of both frustration and exposer.

We barely got anything off or undone. The wheels are off and the "drive shaft"?
And that's where dad stopped banging and hitting things and has sort professional help!
Hopefully Wonder Brian is coming over tomorrow night with some bigger and better tools. "Big Berther" I think she's called :p

Im still really angry at the car. For a car of its age and the car I have taken of it, so much is broken rusted or cracked! But something else has angered me even more today. The same garage has charged me £140+vat to change a throttle body. And my warranty only cover £27+vat.

Im majorly out of pocket, the car's not fixed, and even if I did sell it, I'd be down £2500!

It's not been a good week for me!

Thank you all for you're interest/concern/help though. I really do appreciate it!

Sorry to hear your in the wars mate ..I feel guilty now putting up that partial strip down write up :( this weather is no place to be attempting to fit a clutch ..been there and worn the T shirt .. ..I hope things improve for you soon (y) chin up ;)

Sorry to hear about your woes :(

To be brutally honest, I've never found replacing a clutch an easy job.

The disassembly is actually the easy part and it can get a might be frustrating when you start putting things back together (especially if you've never done one before)

I'd be inclined to call it day (or a week), get it mobile again, and take it to a specialist in a nice warm workshop :)

Just keep your cool over it and I'm sure you'll get it sorted (y)

Well it's all finished!!!!

Came home at lunch and Brian and dad had already changed the clutch and started putting it back together! And as of 5 minutes ago the wheels are on and the car dropped. Road testing tomorrow.

Plus all of my amazon order turned up! Looks like the worst week ever is nearly over!

Just got to sort out the fecking garage and the warranty company to get my £100 back the garage have shafted me out of!

Thanks all! Things are looking up! (Still getting rid of the car though, and I've told her as much!)
