Road Noise!!!!!

I have an 02 plate 1.6 dynamic 3dr with 17inch wheels and 215/45 R17 87W tyres.
I have had new drop links and and shock absorbers fitted to the front of the car to cure noisy creaking suspension (not 100% cured) and the upgrade to prevent the inside wear of front tyres and tracking checked (laser).
Since the suspension upgrade I seem to get alot of road noise from the front of the car, Fiat say its sue to the size of the wheels and the low profile tyres however im not convinced ad its noisier on some roads than others e.g its very quiet on motorways but around my town its quite noisy and annoying.
Is this a problem or shall I put it down to different quality of road surfaces give different road noise?????
Has anyone else experienced similar?????????
What tyres do you recommend that give a quieter drive??????
Any advice would help!!!!!Thanks in advance!!!

Fiat Stilo 3dr 1.6 Dynamic, Sassi grey, Rear Spoiler, 17inch Wheels, Sill protectors.

Mine's the same, I just put it down to different road surfaces and primarily the quality of your tyres, some tyres are noisier than others, it sounds silly but it's true, next time you buy tyres use online reviews to find the longest lasting, best performing and quietest tyre, I did this search and found some great reviews, unfortunately it was after I'd changed my tyres........................doh!!!!!!!!!! [xx(]

To find the best tyres do a search and look for the website, I can't remember what the web site is called but it has loads of information about tests done on all makes of tyres, they report on wear, cost, performance, noise, etc. Somewhere in the Stilo section there is a post with reference to this exact subject, if you trawl through and find it the link to the website is posted on there some where! ;)

Dunplop SP Sports on my 15's are pretty good, a bit of road noise (seeing as the rest of the car is so quiet then thats got to be expected). They grip well in dry or wet, although it is possible to do a Starsky & Hutch moment on tight bends, a bit of tyre squeeling, but i mainly put that down the Stilo's fairly lardy suspension setup!

Before the Stilo I had a Punto MK II which had appalling road noise. I did some research and bought Goodyear Eagle tyres which were very quiet. Good performance in the wet too.
I may change to them when the Stilo's are due for a change. Although Im told you have to have the same brand on all 4 corners due to the traction control?

Just wondering how this would work? Due to traction control preventing the driven wheels from spinning, how would the tyres on the rear, undriven wheels have any effect on traction control?

Dog,

Can you explain why the ESP function needs all 4 tyres the same?
Thanks

the esp system will work with different tyres, for example a space saver etc. it just wont work as well. under normal driving you would not notice any difference, but if you started pushing it in the wet for example, the system relies on sensors to measure braking, torque, steering input etc. if one tyre was offering less grip than the rest( different type/brand etc ). the system would intervene and alter throttle/ braking etc. so basically you can drive faster if your tyres are all the same. hope that makes sense.
