Recently experiencing acceleration problems where the acceleration cuts completely?? No common factors ie - happens at any speed, in any gear etc. Taking my foot off the pedal then putting it back on cures it instantly. I have the car booked in for it to be looked at. Not sure if it is covered as the car is in the 3rd year of warranty????

Any info would be great.

Cheers

Have had the same in our garage but when car drive in the rain on motorway loss of power then ok.......Jack up your car and under the left head lamp but above the corner part of the undertray is a small valve that controls turbo boost, it has a little filter on it to allow air in this filter also allows rain in which corrodes the inside of it so it sticks..Either renew or clean out then with small rubber pipe fixed onto the end where the filter was, route it up to the air filter housing and drill a hole init and push the pipe into it and glue in place .........hope this works for you :D

Hi Ned,

Can you provide more info (perhaps with pictures) for this problem? I might experience an effect of this turbo boost problem

What happens to my car is that it goes from IDLE to full torque RPM VERY-VERY slow (more than 5 seconds). I have changed the air flow sensor (the part after the air filter with a probe in it) in warranty, but I still experience this problem. It started sometime in december 2004 maybe. If I want the car to run better I always have to drive it at above 3000RPM than shift gears up and then I can feel the full torque even at ~2000 RPM, but if I shift gears up earlier (e.g. 2900 and below), the engine "dies", it takes another 5+ seconds to go to above 2800RPM for full torque. It's horrible...

What should I do? Could it be anything else?

Thanks.

PS: I live in Romania so my JTD 1.9 115 BHP has a left-hand side steering wheel, so maybe some motor parts are on the other side than the ones in UK STILO

Hello mscortar and welcome to the forum.

Ned hasn't logged on since October 2004, and not sure if he is still around [this is an old thread].

However, I am sure another Fiat tech guy will be able to help out :)

I certainly hope so... soon also; I need to know more about this because next month I am gonna go at the garage for the yearly planned checks, and I do not trust those guys too much, hence I must know what to tell/show them to check or repair (they are not knowledgeable enough, too lazy, you know how dealers' garages are...especially here in Romania)...

Thanks

No, no engine light... But maybe if that filter (is there a filter on the valve you are talking about, T14086?) is a little (even more) clogged, the computer does not realize it has a problem...

Any other hints?

I saw one valve, but that is very close to the turbo charger, and not near the battery, and that valve changes state at about 1800-2000 RPM, it has some kind of knob on it which moves when engaged (I think)... is it another valve?

Could it be the fuel as well? I mean I did not start the car for a few days, then it started very-very hard... Someone told me it could have been water condensation (we have -15 Celsius in Romania at night) and he recommended running with full tank as much a possible and with additives against condensation and such...; could this be the reason of my acceleration problems as well?

Thanks.

Thanks, very useful indeed; I will go to the garage in a few weeks for the yearly maintenance, and I will ask them to change the diesel fuel filter and maybe clean the tank and other similar procedures; I will get back to you after that.

Thanks again.

Lately the things got a lot worse: at -15 outside temp in the morning, it would take me more than 5 minutes to be able to rev up to a certain RPM to start moving the car; until then, a lot of smoke and the engine was choking...

I took it to the garage for the yearly service and this problem as well, and they told me it was the EGR valve, which, because of some bad diesel fuel, got stuck (in closed position I think), and a lot of exhaust gas was coming back into the intake.

They will change the valve in the 3rd year of warranty.

I hope this will solve the problem, I will see it tomorrow. Wish me luck.

Oooops the overboost valve is below the right hand headlight,if you look down you can see it just above the undertray(if fitted)it will be the valve(pipes to it)covered in dirt/crap etc. Sorry about saying it was by the battery was thinking of the Multipla diesel, ooops sorry!

If it is the overboost valve no need to jack it up,I done one this week took 5 minutes.Reach/look down under headlight towards bottom of car you will see the valve with a green multiplug on it & 2 small pipes,2 x 10mm bolts hold it on,job done.

Picked my car from the garage at last. It was the EGR valve, they have replaced in warranty (3rd year). The car's running like new now. Surprisingly good job from Fiat garage.
