Arbath Connect Nav+ - a few bugs?

Anybody experiencing problems with ConnectNav System?

Mine seems to get the voice / distance confused.

A typical case would be "turn right in 3/4 mile" when the distance diciator shows 360 yrd.

also it screeches at odd times as if the voice files are corrupt.

Software version 8.1 - As its not on the dealers recall list how do i get the lastest version?

Also there seems to be some functions shown in the manual (its amazing what you'll read when stuck in traffic...) that dont appear such as the variable ringtones.

any help/comments/update CDs welcome

Steve

Yes I have got the same problems isnt it annoying

Do you also have these problems

1) Voice activation - saying the word "help" instead of coming back with a list of available keywords it starts dialling the telephone!

2) CD and CD changer - Whenever you start the car the CD says Press play and then always restarts from the beginning of the CD. So even if the CD is 30 seconds into track 5 when you stop the car it will start from the beginning of track 1 when you restart the car (even though the audio display says track 5 30 seconds). I have never ever known a car cd player do this , they always carry on playing from where they were. If you do a lot of short journeys you really do get fed up of listening to track 1!!!! and why do you have to press play to restart the music, your not expected to press a button for the radio every time?

I just think the software for this car has been rushed out before the bugs have been ironed out, what a shame because it does spoil what is a fun car to drive. Hopefully in the future we might be able to download a bug free version from Fiat

All the same problems as I'm having! And I see in a later topic in this forum somebody is also suffering from the Connect + scretching at you every so often. Not sure what version of the software I am running cause I don't know how to check. Don't even know if there is a new version out yet, but something needs changing on it!

Hi All,

My software version is 8.5 came with the car. I also have the same problems as you.

Reading through other forums it seems it's a common problems.

The CD player resetting it's self is also a pain in the arse, not sure if Fiat are going to address this issue.

Having browsed around a bit I learned that the voice files that seem to be causing this intermittent screeching problem, and the odd commands with wrong distances to go, are located on the Navtech CD. So, I had a look at mine and it had a few scratches and a big clod of muck. Cleaned off the muck and it seemed to work better. But it is still scratched so I have now made a copy of the CD, and will try that out. Preliminary test so far are good. It seems to have cleared up the following problems I was having:
1) CD Error when I tried to change the scale of the maps.
2) Distances to go it says seem more sensible, but this will need a bit more testing to be sure.
3) No intermittent screeches, but again I should test that some more.

I'll let you all know how it is after a few more miles.

The dealer updated my Connect system yesterday and it's now showing version 8.3 (It was 7.1). Is 8.5 available as an update?

Anyone out there with electric seats? There is a recall to replace the control unit. Whether this affects only the earlier models or not I'm not sure.

Yes I have checked but I cannot find any recalls for the Stilo on the following site:

www.via.gov.uk/apps/recalls/default.asp

My dealer told me of the recall for the electric seats. They had written out to tell me of the door lock problem and something else (I can't remember now!). I guess it comes down to the customer service of the dealership you are using.

Just to go back to the point about the voice files on the Connect system, I thought that these were on the Setup CD rather than the Navigation CD. Is this correct? I registered with Navtech and got the next update CD for free (2002 CD to replace my 2001 original). I found the newer CD was more detailed than the one supplied with the car. Does anyone know if the 2003 CD is out yet?

The voice files for the sat-nav are on the Setup disk, not the Map disk. There is a known problem with one of the samples - the one that says, "After a mile", where the "a mile" gets replaced by a screech. Cleaning the disk won't make any difference at all.

I currently have verison 8.5 in my car, but on the Stilo forum at http://www.webwatcher.info/stilo/forum/ there's someone there who's now got version 9.7 in his car.

Some of the menus have changed slightly, but nothing much new so it seems, though it's early days as he's still going through it all.

Alas, it doesn't seem to have cured the screech - only a new version of the setup disk will cure that [:(!]

I have just received my Stilo with presumably the very latest software and it does all of the above things. The screeching is really annoying and if anyone knows how to stop this please let me know.

Hi all,

For the Nav+ in Italy I heard some little problem about software bugs, resolved step by step with new versions...

but never heard before about problems that you say...

could it be a problem for English version only?

I think that maybe you should speak with Fiat UK directly, maybe doing a request together... so Fiat UK will understand the problem and asking to Fiat in Italy to resolve it...

Roberto

ps

Flashing indicators problems was resolved like this, or not?

Having now had version 9.7 in my car for several weeks now, I can happily say that the screeching noise issue is now no more ;-)

The CD player still has amnesia, however :-(

A CD supplied with your stilo

I remember reading in the forum that a CD of some description being supplied with the stilo. Its more curiosity than anything can some one tell me what it is and whats on it ?

pointless but oh well!!! :D :D :D

Re: A CD supplied with your stilo

Does the sat nav run without the CD or does it always have to be in the nav unit?

Is this a good reason to get the 5 disc changer as well do you think ?

Re: A CD supplied with your stilo

i dont have the cd changer, you may find you wanna listen to that engine note more than the music..
what you do is,put in your nav cd..select a destination..take out the cd..and if it allows it, it will copy the destination onto the satnav unit and you can then put in your music cd's...the satnav voice will interupt the music whenever theres a direction to take..

Re: A CD supplied with your stilo

My Abarth came with 2 CDs: the Navtech Map disc, plus the Magneti Marelli Setup CD for the SatNav+ unit.

Although you can take out the Nav CD and get it to read the data into memory, my understanding is that it provides reduced functionality in this mode - haven't tried it personally, so I'm not sure how reduced.

A point worth noting about the multichanger is that you can only play MP3 discs on the head unit - they don't work on the Multichanger which is total boll***s since it is like a NIL cost feature to have. I didn't realise this until after the multichanger was fitted!

BTW I'm pretty certain the multichanger is a £210 option now - I bought a kit from a fiat maindealer for £170 and its a piece of cake to fit - literally 15mins. So you can always add one later if you really want one.
