experts..another stilo (1.6 16V Dynamic , 2003 model ) with the famous 'Engine Fault'. Taken to the local garage. They did the investigation and said the fault codes are 'bracke switch something ...' and 'Map Sensor failure' , they said Map sensor is the problem. Charged me 200 ( 50 for investigation + 50 for labour and 100 for Map sensor) . Got the vehicle on Friday . Drive back to home. On Monday the engne fault came back again. I could still drive the vehicle to office but the revs seem to be low. I dont know what to do. I will get the garage to check it again and hopefully they should not charge me with another 50 for investigation. If you could tell me what is the best thing to do that will be great. I am a new car user and hence can't do any investigation / repair myself.I would really appreciate your help.

I hope they are covering their own errors. You might have another issue which is, or is not relatied with MAP sensor. If it is not, they shouldn't charge you things which are not solving a problem.

Simple as that, you must be under some sort of warranty, if they are any good professionals.

I have had the same problem, I got the sensor replaced and the fault codes were cleared. Ran fine for a while but eventually the same problem was back, 'engine fault' light on, stalls for no reason on cold starts and wouldn't idle on cold start etc...

I lived with the problem for over a year (about 25k miles) until I got an OBD2 engine diagnostic USB connector of ebay for £30. With the help of some free software and my laptop I have cleared the fault code myself and the engine runs sweet. I have had to repeat the process twice in the past year as the code re-appeared on a very cold morning. This has fixed the problem for me, obviously there must still be some exhisting problem for the engine fault to re-appear intermitently but I have learned to live with it.

Keep us all posted on what you learn from your MAP sensor problem.

Hi Ian,

You are spot on.. Mine had the problem on cold start ( morning 5.30am ) , then I took it back to the garage , they said its the same problem as before ( Before changing the MAP sensor ) ..The error codes are
P0571 - BRAKE SWITCH CIRCUIT
P0105 - MAP SENSOR CIRCUIT

They adviced me to take it to Fiat Dealer. I live in Bracknell ( I can goto DENKALE reading or Thames Motor group slough..anyone has feedback on these.. I read lot of comments about dealers ..).As you have mentioned , the error dissapeared now.. I drive for some 5 miles to check it , but it is not coming.. so probably cold start is the key..

I dont know how much the dealer would charge me for investigation ( already spent 200 ..:-( ) .. any advice would be greatly appreaciated..

I did that.. They are asking me to check with Fiat first and then only they can refund if any?

Ian, when you mentioned that you have been driving for 25K miles.. is it with the engine failure message / whenever it appeared you had to clear it using the too you got on ebay?

Have you had the MAP/throttle body software update........if not get it done.

I bought this car recently and I dont know if it has been updated or not. Is there anyway to find out ? / Do I need to take it to the dealer to find out? Thanks for your answer..

This morning the 'engine fault' appears again... Going to the dealer ..Stilo is beginning to suck...

Got the two error codes removed..

Brake pedal switch replaced .
MAP sensor software updated.

For 180 pounds.( 90 for diagnostics and rest for the actual job ).. Now need to check with the local garage if he will refund the money ...

Thanks a lot for the help guys..Hopefully now it should not appear again.Any such software updates are needed for any other known problems ? Please let me know?
