Re: Air con pipe

:confused:Never had a pipe fracture on my 2002 Jtd but the pipes that come from the condenser have just rubbed through again were they're clamped to the body with a poxy plastic clip just below the o/s headlight - second time in less than two years, think they might get left off this time!!!!! or wrapped in tape first(n)

mmmm haven't had that problem on my 02 JTD, still got original pipework. Maybe something has been moved on yours or not secured properly hence the movement?

Re: Air con pipe

Hello all,

This is my 1st post on Fiat forum. Loving the site and all the usefull topic.

I have just got a Stilo and there are so meny little jobs that need doing to it :bang: so i'm going to be on here alot lol.

Dose anyone know witch air con pipe / part code for a 02 stilo 1.6 16v. Same as the pic in page one #5 (post 5)

I'v looked on ePER and i'm lost. I'v also rang Fiat Blackpool and they are useless. On ePER there 7 to pick for!? But witch one lol

Thanks

Re: Air con pipe

Welcome to the forum
I think you'll drive yourself nuts if you try looking for a part number like that on ePER and still get it wrong as they're often updated
Fiat spares should be doing that after getting the year and model details from you

Here's the details from my own ePER but these could be well out of date by now

air con pipe 2.JPG

Item you're interested in is item 1 or item 10 which are the same parts

Re: Air con pipe

Thank you for your reply.

Was on the phone to Blackpool Fiat (Blackpool is the nearst Fiat parts outlet) and think we got it shorted. I had a look at the pipe and found some numbers witch helped them find the right pipe (i hope lol).

It's all good fun

re: Air-con faulty [broken pipe?]

Hi

I have been reading this thread with great interest.
At one point I thought I was reading about my own car as I have exactly the same problem with my aircon.

I am no novice regarding cars but have never worked on the aircon system.
It is mentioned in this thread that the fan should start up when the aircon is activated. Is that correct?

My car has been back to Kwik fit 2 times to have it re-gassed (this is in the space of 1 month).
They have checked the pressure and all seems fine, but after a couple of weeks the aircon stops working. First the air cooling stops then a couple of days later the compressor stop kicking in.

When my aircon is switched on should my fan also start up?

Can't say I have ever heard my fan working (but my engine has never over heated.

Would it be possible that my fan control unit ( M150 )has a faulty also?

I would appreciate any help.

Cheers

Tony

re: Air-con faulty [broken pipe?]

Tony,
Glad to hear you enjoyed the thread, it was a bit of a headache.

In answer to your question, Yes it should switch on when the aircon is activated, ie press the snowflake button. It won't be instant but normally after approx 15-20 secs.
I should say that i too never heard the fan and still dont. The stilo fan is very quiet and i can only tell by shining a torch down behind the rad and physically looking at the fan to see it spinning.

When i had mine regassed, it was pressure tested, all ok. The engineer left all the machines connected, ran the engine and switched the aircon on. He then waited for the fan to start which it didn't, he told me straight away that something was wrong hence the start of my investigation.
He told me not to use the aircon at all unless doing 70mph+ until i had got it sorted as the lack of airflow in with the aircon on would cause problems.

What year is your car?
There was recall on early stilos for fan control units shorting out.

First step, get a torch under the bonnet and see if that fan is spinning, let us know how you get on

re: Air-con faulty [broken pipe?]

Hi Neil

I have just checked the fan with the aircon on and would you believe it came on.

I spent some time cleaning the contacts earlier so that may have solved it.
I was beginning to hope it was the fan control unit as I am getting frustrated trying to solve this.

When I returned to Kwikfit today they rechecked the gas and it still had a lot in but the compressor and stopped activating, this only usually happens when the level is low.
They confirmed it does not have any leaks.

It took approx 3 weeks to stop working before so I will see how I go.
They did say if it fails again they will refund me, but I would prefer it if the aircon was working.

It's currently working as it should, lets hope it stays that way.

re: Air-con faulty [broken pipe?]

I'm glad to hear the fan works. I take it they have put the dye into the system that shows up under UV light?
Without doing this they cannot say for definate that there are no leaks, you may have a hairline crank in one of the pipes which is why it fails slowly.

You're lucky you didn't have to replace the unit it is over £130 :(

re: Air-con faulty [broken pipe?]

Hi

The unit is at fault. It's stopped working again.
Where did you get yours from?

Just taken the unit to bits (got the back off). Noticed a dry solder joint.
Resoldered and refitted. The fan comes on now but only for about 30 secs then slows down to almost a stop then starts again. Is this normal or should it run all the time?

Thanks for you help.

re: Air-con faulty [broken pipe?]

Asjsrs,
I believe that is normal, that is what mine does anyway.

My understanding is that the fan only comes on to blow enough air across the condensor, then shuts off. Hence the on off on off motion.

The same unit is also linked into the engine temperature system, so to make sure that side of things is OK.
Turn you AC off and run your car upto temperature (easier to go for a drive) then leave it ticking over, after a few minutes the fan should start as the temp gets hotter, try revving it up to help.
