Hi all. I've got the common problem of the brake pad causing a squeak on my rear wheel so want give the brakes a good clean but I would like to know which brake caliper rewind adapter plate I need for my brakes. I don't fancy pulling them apart then seeing if I can get hold of the right tool cos knowing my luck there won't be any for miles and my car will be in bits for weeks. It's on a 3 door 1.6 on a 52 plate and it's the drivers side rear wheel. Any help would be greatly appriciated. Cheers all.:)

With something like this you need to pay money for a decent kit with 2 winders, that wind in opposite ways. Do a search on rear brakes, it's been covered plenty in the past. Not sure which plate, but if you're planning on doing any more on the rear brakes, like changing your own pads, in the future, you'll need both winders, as the pistons wind back different ways on each side.

EDIT: Something like this. They're not all that expensive though :D

thats correct the kit will need two thrust bolts one for each direction ..which reminds me I must stick my kit in classifieds now I havnt got the stilo any more

My kit covers all european cars and is bigger than the one you showed dont need it now we only have one ..and knowing june she might get shot of the stilo in a year or so she just got the stilo after only owning a brand new GP for 4months ..mind you I dont blame her there the GP is (n) and the panda is ten times the car (y)

When i did a friends alfa 156 i used a G-clamp on both pistons and it worked ok (just a tip)

Won't work on rear disc brakes. The pistons have to be wound back under force. G-Clamps work fine on front pistons as they're only 'in and out' but rear pistons are 'in and out' as well as having a screw thread on them. Some people do argue that using a G-Clamp can do damage as the force isn't evenly spread across the piston and they use items like this. I have to say I quite fancy one, it certainly looks easier to use than a g-clamp.

I was talking about the rears, th fronts i used a screwdriver, with the rears as i was tightening the g clamp the piston was turning at the same time thus pushing it in.

So where did you get the G clamp that winds in anti clock wise been looking for one of those for ages :D

I didnt wind it anticlockwise, it went clockwise on both wheels. (the only reason i used a g clamp was cos i took the caliper off one side to replace the discs and i didnt know at the time that they had to be rewound and i dont know what i but but i ended up pushing the piston all the way out so i couldnt even use the old discs and pads again, i went down the motor factors and he suggested i use the g clamp cos he had sold out the proper tool) So maybe was just luck?

Alfas use the same system as fiats one piston clock wise and the other anti clock wise :)
