General external audio input to CDC socket?

Hi
I had a Sony CD changer which came with an adapter to allow it to be used with the Blaupunkt radio in my Punto, however I was told by my local Fiat dealer that no such device can be used with the radio's fitted in the Stilo, its either their own (Blaupunkt)CD changer or nothing.

I think the Fiat dealers may be saying that to encourage you to buy from them (I was quoted £299 to fit the fiat approved blaupunkt) and my dealer also tried to tell me the indicators flashing on locking the car by remote was a feature of the alarm instaed of the car (see separate relevant posts).

I'm sure it would be possible to build a cable that could fool the HU into thinking it was connected to a CDC so the audio could be transferred from either an external source or a non Fiat approved CD.

Thats what I thought, but I was told that the head unit is software locked, it interogates the attached CD changer, if its not the right one it wont work.

No, accepted dealers word, left it in the Punto. Also told by Bluespot it woluldnt work. Never know now - ce la vie

I have not tried connecting a personal CD/MP3 player to the head unit. However, I did buy the Blaupunkt multi CD changer and lead which did not work as the system is software locked. I bought an identical looking unit from FIAT together with a new insert for the glovebox to house the unit and all was well. But the kit was over a £100 more than the standard Blaupunkt unit.

The key here is software locked. If a someone knew what signal the HU needed it would be easy enough to knock together an interface to trick the HU into thinking it was connected to a CDC
