brakes & allginment

rite well my car failed its first MOt
got a wee hole in the exhaust which i thot i would of got pulled for but nope, passed on that its gona go soon so does anyone know any good exhaust systems at a hlf decent price? i got a quote for 150 for a new standard exhaust so i wudnt mind payin extra for a decent exhaust with a better note (not too boyrace) and longer life

back to the point, the onli thing the car failed on was the handbrake, it was a lot more powerful on the passenger side (reading on 1.8) and it only read 0.8 on the drivers side. they have 2 b withing 30% of each other so unfortuantly it didn pass
the foot brake is also off a bit, passenger side 1.8, driver side 1.5, this however is passable but i would stil lik to see it a bit more even than that
hav yous any ideas on how to sort this? for both foot and hand brake

the one other thing is that i have had my alligment sorted twice in 3 days and its off again, ive lowred the car 35mm on Spax springs, the guy in the tyre place said that my cambers may need adjusted due to lowerinbut im pretty sure i read in here that there is no camber adjustment in the Stilo, is this true? the car keeps pullin me off to the left so im not sure if this is to do with the brakes or anything, if anyone has any ideas on how to sort this please let me know, cheers

Re: brakes & allginment

Don't think the camber can be adjusted, although Phil (PNL) did post a link to a site you can buy camber bolts from. I'll let him post it up rather than stealing his thunder...unless I find it first :middlefinger:

What? No smiley for middle finger?! dammit

only joking Phil

Cool Re: brakes & allginment

Sorry for the late reply our internet conection has been down

anyway here are the bolts that can give your suspension a camber adjustment scroll down and you will see them http://www.performancealloys.com/low...ts_springs.asp

Any modifications done to a car will nesesitate the tacking and camber being altered along with the lowering which we all know is not possible with the stadard set up on the stilo ..the camber bolts will add to the car what should have been there in the first place IMO .also try setting your tyre pressures higher I set mine now to 37psi after the subject was brought up the other day ..you will also find that if your tyres have worn on the inside the car will pull and follow the ruts in the road regardless and the stilo I have found is the worst car for doing this I have ever owned mine was doing it rather badley after I had a puncture on the nearside front and the tyre was stripped of and refitted ..I had fitted two new tyres the other day for its new MOT and my car no longer pulls to the curb its dead striaght now

Re: brakes & allginment

You obviously need to check really basic stuff like pad thickness but I suspect the braking problems may be due to a seized caliper.

I've had the slider bar seize on one side on mine but if someone, who didn't know what they were doing, has played with the rear brakes then the piston might be in any condition

Re: brakes & allginment

cheers for all the advice

rite sorry but im not sure about all the suspension jargon, i deal with springs and coilovers and sell them 2 ppl bt they do the work, lol
rite i understand cambers alright, i took the old tyres off the car (i had to get 5 new tyres!!!!!) so theyre all brand new tyres on it, the old ones had serious wear on the inside of them, but the car wasnt lowerd then. it is nw
ok, im guessin i will need camber bolts, do i need a pair for the rear as well as the front? and was is "tacking" ?
so if these are off or wrong then tht would in turn set off the allignment?
i just wana know everything ive 2 buy/do to make the sure run straight without having to constantly hold the steering wheel to keep it straight

the mechanic said that there wer new shoes in the brakes so they just needed to bed in, could that of been the reason for the mot failure?
when it did fail i brought it straight back to him telling him it failed, gave me the data sheets, and since i paid him a extortionate amount of money 2 make the car 100% mechanically i expected it to pass the mot, bt since he did he felt obliged to fix watever is wrong, he said it should pass now, i will soon find out on friday

Yep one pair but make sure you get a company that knows what they are doing for the fitting and camber setting
