I have Stilo 2003 1.6 Multiwagon and I have problem with rear brakes
Left side rear brake adjustment adjusts brake so that brake touches the brake disc all the time.
Contact is so light that when you take off the handbrake and try to pull car moves car smoothly and you dont notice anything. All I can notice is that after driving brake becomes very hot.

The brake pads were worn out on left side and I changed them and cleaned all the surfaces and used proper copperpaste etc. Piston rubber is ok and all the brake lines and hoses are ok.

Today I talked with one repair shop and they told me that this is quite normal problem with Stilo. They told that they have in these cases changed whole brake caliper.

Does somebody know is there some other solution to fix this problem?

Is the disc central within the caliper? Is the wear even on the pads? When you squeeze the piston in is there the correct gap? Could be something in the master cylinder if its not knocking back. We had something on the F-BMW where the pedal was always soft - was sort of doing the opposite of yours and knocking back too far - the seal in the master cylinder was the wrong way round.

Have you had this pistons out of the caliper? Just have a very good clean first.....
 
This could also be the hand brake operation incorrectly set on that side so I would take off the caliper on that side and check that the hand brake operation is correct ..if the piston isnt sticking I suspect its to do with the handbrake cable and its operation onto the rear disc..if in doubt change the hand brake cable on the offending side :)

It could also be due to incorrect handbrake adjustment - I noticed when doing mine it was heavily biased towards the rear left, got FIAT to do it on the ramp (FOC :D) and since then it was perfect.
 
It's very common for the rear caliper slide to seize on the Stilo. This means one pad would always be in contact with the disc.

You would expect uneven pad wear but definitely worth checking as one of mine was seized and I had no obvious side effects.
 
I'm glad to hear it happens to BMW also.

This thread reminded me of the time when I was driving Yugo - I hope you all know which car I am talking about? :p
 
Yeah, 903 ccm of pure rage.

Anyway, it was quite cheap to ride, actually cheap almost as public transport. :D Very low fuel consumption, sub 5l on open road, no more then 7l per 100km in urban. Although it was 40 year old engine (from Fiat 850 sport).

I actually owned one :) I used it for a fishing trip vehicle ..you will understand what I mean if you have smelt the inside of a car after a good days fishing ..even a wrestlers jock strap smells getter that that ..not that Ive ever had the privilege :D
