Hi, car feeling funny so took adivse and bought OBD II, fault codes P0204 and P0460.

P0204 - Injector Circuit Open Cylinder 4

P0460 - Fuel Level Sensor A Circuit Malfunction

other problems, firstly when car is turned to MAR the RPM shoots up quite high and then comes back? - is this normal - the rpm fluctuates a little at idle. At biting point, car doesnt want to move, a bit of jerking.

Also when my fuel goes past the red zone
(in the middle of the red zone)- my range to empty goes ---.

Any help would be really grateful.

P0204 - Injector Circuit Open Cylinder 4
If it's an old fault that hasn't returned then maybe it was a one off and nothing to worry about

P0460 - Fuel Level Sensor A Circuit Malfunction
Common when you're very low on fuel. Sensor is giving out of range values

other problems, firstly when car is turned to MAR the RPM shoots up quite high and then comes back? - is this normal - the rpm fluctuates a little at idle.
Have you tried turning the car towards Jupiter? I have no idea what you mean here. Got some figures for rpm?

At biting point, car doesnt want to move, a bit of jerking.
Well stop it immediately, someone might see you:)

That's normal and means it is too close to empty to compute properly and YOU NEED TO GET FUEL NOW

cheers - I found the codes after i had topped up petrol, and also sometimes when i start the car the exclamation mark comes up and display reads 'fuel level' failure' - but this lasts four about a fews seconds, then everything disappears. The Injector Circuit Open Cylinder is a new thing, the reason why i had checked using OBD device is because a few times now while driving the engine light had come on saying engine failure or something, but i could still drive the car, and then after 4 on/off of the car, the engine light turned off.

Injector Circuit Open Cylinder - what does the code mean, is this damaged, if so what is it that needs replacing and what are the costs.

ALSO i still cant figure why - when i pull off from traffic lights it is never smooth, gear one it feels weird like about to stall and alot of jerking.

cheers

Injector Circuit Open Cylinder No 4- what does the code mean, is this damaged, if so what is it that needs replacing and what are the costs.

This means there is a loss of contact somewhere in the circuit which could be poor contact on a connector to injector on cylinder No.4

Might well be to do with the injector too. Juddering when moving off is often caused by the clutch (contamination, worn moving parts) but can also be engine related to one cylinder, especially if it's near stalling. Fix one - fix both maybe

Check the connections to the injectors, use some contact cleaner on them.

The main problem with checking the injector connections on the 1.6 tho Decks is that its not really a DIY job and its quite a strip down [manifold etc to even get to the injector rail ] when I had the duff No 4 injector on mine I actually traced it right back to the time when the previous owner had the car and they were having trouble with the injector on the car and the car was in warranty at the time ..seems that the injector was faulty then and fiat didnt replace it and just reset the engine light [got all the info from dealer I use ];)

Changing the injectors on the 1.6 is quite involved unlike the 1.2/4 where you can get to the fuel rail without a strip down ..dont think I would be intimidated by this again tho and do the job myself next time changing the injectors isnt that hard a job in its self ..

The individual connectors to each injector are buried deep but the main connector to the injectors is real easy to get at

Item 1 here. Disconnect it and spray some contact cleaner in it
If you have some test gear you can run electrical circuit tests on the injectors from here too

cheers, so the injector fault i not related to the coil in anyway - also i hear some people say it could be becuase i need an ECU + throttle update????

Nothing directly related between coil and injector. They're different systems but both have to be running right for good combustion

Getting the most recent ECU/throttle body update is always worthwhile if you have any problems with those items. You may have already had it done on your car. Only way to tell is by garage records perhaps or putting it on Examiner to see

:bang: my engine management light is back on, after a few restarts its gone again - wots wrong.

Also does the EOBD detect faults in the coils.

regards

Yes........but often injector faults are actually flagged coil faults also the ECU can log a coil fault in say coil 4 when it is actually coil 2 (this is normally only related to stilos) just to confuse things!

If ECU doesn't 'see' fault after 3 EOBD drive cycles it will put out light but error still logged for 40.

It might be worthwhile letting fiat garage diagnose it.

perhaps the best thing to do! will charge me about £37 for diagnostics and then whatever ontop.

Shockingly - no faults according to the examiner, took it down to fiat specialist, they said they hooked up the examiner, but no luck - there are no faults, and apparently wen they took it for a test drive it was ok.

I'm 99% sure there is a fault whatever it maybe, but examiner dosent think so, what do i do now!!!!

My little diagnostic thing detected the faults. Nor did i erase the faults.
