On my way to work this morning just coming off the motorway i got a beep beep noise followed by Engine fault and a Spanner appear on my dash, this then stopped and dissapeared. when it happened the car juddered slightly but carried on going.

its a 1.2 3dr Active 16v.

I have spoken to my most local dealer and they said it may have just been a slight hiccup and that if it comes back on and stays on to make a appointment to go in and get it wired up to their computer.

im really worried they may be fobbing me off, am i gonna do damage by trying to drive again?

any ideas what it could be?

your car is very clever and the light will stay on if it is a very important fault.

The flash means its a "soft" fault, like a slight misfire (needs a service) or a sensor is giving what it thinks a slow/false reading like a lambda probe.

If you notice mpg going down it might be worth wiring it up.

Could probably be a coil on the way out. Very very very very common fault. I have a 1.6 and have had to replace all 4 coils. I presume the 1.2 has similar coils. If i'm right, don't worry about it - dead easy to fix. Less than £50 for the new coil and about 10 minutes to replace it.

the local fiat dealership quoted £76 to do a diagnostics?? if it is this coil needs doing its gonna end up costing a bit along with their labour charge.

not good when im skint.

Why not invest £40 on a coil then (you'll almost certainly need it anyway at some time so it's pretty much a win! win!)

does anyone happen to have a guide to replacing aforementioned coils, then i can see if its something i or one of my colleagues could do ourselves?

well its just done it again on the way home from work, rang the garage i bought it off (not a fiat dealer) said to bring it in tomorrow, i hope its not gonna take forever, need to work and back! grrr
