Please excuse my post. I have misplaced my manual and I got a question that is bugging me

Why does the esp light(i think) flicker when I wheel spin? Is it to tell me that I am wheel spinning(like I wouldnt know!) or is there a problem?

I dont tend to spin often but sometimes I am trigger happy :)

Ah yes, I also get my parents telling me that their Stilo has an Airbag fault whenever someone sits in the passenger seat, which then goes away!

How's the Stilo going gaz?

Do you mean it pulls to the left with the road camber or it pulls to the left when you brake ?

Poor braking on the stilo is easily solved ;)

I'd like to know why the ASR warning light never seems to come on and/or the ESP warning light seems to come on instead for the ASR...

The ASR warning light is the one with a pepperpot having stars whistling out, at the top of the rev. counter just below 40 and x100, where the ESP warning light is the triangle/hazard symbol and a circular arrow.

If things are going really pear-shaped I would expect the ESP warning light to be on, but for wheelspin you would have thought that the ASR warning light would be on?

Meanwhile if I have an ASR failure (along with my ABS failure and my ESP failure; return to dealer) then the ESP warning light (the triangle-and-arrow) stays on, and again the ASR warning light does not come on.

Cheers,
-Alex

it pulls on a straight bit of road

i do not want to replace my brakes after only 6k:eek:

So you are telling me that it pulls to the left when you take your hands off the steering wheel or when you brake on a straight bit of road with your hand off the steering wheel ?

Have you had the laser wheel alignment done on your car ..and also check that there isn't any abnormal tyre ware on the inside of the front tyres because if there is the car will pull even if its had the tracking done ..now if its pulling when you brake then that could be simply that your brakes have a sticking caliper piston or build up of brake dust and debris and all you might need is just a brake service and a bit of a clean up and re greasing with the old copper stuff ..:chin:

This sounds like a bit of camber following to me Gaz. As Phile says make sure alignment is OK, but assuming it is, then all you need do is move a few wheels around.

You really want the wheel with most tread on the front nearside combined with the general rule of front tyres having best tread on inside and rear tyres with best tread on outside.

Damn good bit of exercise moving your wheels around too (y)

BTW - I'm assuming all 4 tyres are the same as they should be on a newish motor

:yeahthat:

when I first had the car the steering was straight

I dont remember hitting anything to make it funny

all 4 tyres are the same, unsure of the make

Will go for wheel alignment at the weekend.

Alex, quite a discussion about that took place here

As a much newer Stilo I think Gaz may not have an ASR indicator :chin:

Well, I read all the messages in that thread, and it seems that others have the same experience as me :)

I went out to my Stilo and turned the key on. Four of the lights lit up, but not the top-centre ASR light... so there we go, it appears to not be functional even in the Abarth model - the exclamation-mark-circle light is for both the ASR and the ESP. Also, when flinging my Stilo around on grass, there was a great deal of BEEP-BEEP-BEEP going on, which may have corresponded with the ESP activating at low speeds. Or, it could have been the handbrake

If you've got ESP, the ASR light on the button will work, but the ESP system looks after the ASR part of the braking system - hence no ASR light.

No ESP = ASR light. If you haven't got a button, you've still got ASR, but it isn't turn-offable.
