The rear driver side seat belt refuses to budge, I have moved the seat back and forward, tried tugging, jiggling and coaxing but to no avail. I have removed the plastic trim and cant see what is stopping it coming out, it makes a clank sound so I guess the ratcheting mechanism is at fault?

Questions:
What sort of garages can fix this? (ATS, National, dealers etc)
Any recommendations on who to try or avoid?

thanks for any help, I'm stuffed if I cant fix this, baby on the way and need the seat belt working!!!

Is this 3 or 5 door?
The centre belt I know has a cable locking mechanism which won't allow the centre belt to move unless the back rest is locked in properly. Look for the red indicators at the top of the rear seat to turn to grey when you lock the backrest in position

If it is one of the rear side ones then, once you've gained access to it by removing the panel, then undoing the top bolt here will usually give you enough free play for the damned thing to start working again.

Don't drop the bolt:)
Belts are very car specific so it'll be a dealer only job if you need to obtain a replacement but usually they just have an off day and start working again as soon as you take them out.

Not on a steep hill are you? Some belts have a pendulum locking device. I think the Stilo is just inertia driven

Belt comes out only if when mechanisam is in right position. Try to move it left and right or back and forth and see if it helps

cheers guys - its a 5 door - I'll look for those red tabs I dont remember ever seeing them and see what can be done. on a slight incline, not a steep hill and all the other belts work fine so def a problem.

I'll try some more jiggling / verbal abuse and see if that helps.

I did find a mobile seat belt company but they only do london :(

so dealer fix only, darn, d salmon it is then...

£88 inc vat to replace :(
not suprised to be honest, I'm suprised they even looked at it in these days of litigation and blaim and claim culture

Firstly, the belt WILL have both a 'pendulum'-lock plus a rotating-inertia lock, because it's been a requirement for nigh-on 20 years in most markets. So, would only release if on the flat and level. I agree with zaratrusta (welcome to the forum (y)) in that if you took it out and tipped it side-to-side, it might release.

I'm not sure if the belts in the back are of the webbing-grabber type or whether they only lock the centre of the reel (picture appears to be of the traditional centre-lock variety - so nothing special). If a 'universal' replacement could fit in the hole, I think that's what I'd do.

Front seat belts are a lot more fancy with webbing grabber, pyrotechnic pretension, and load limiter (piece of metal that straightens). You wouldn't want to skimp on replacing a front belt.

Pretty easy to install rear belts yourself - did the £88 include fitting?
Anyway at least it's safe now.

Cheers,
-Alex

Hi,

I have a little problem with my driver seat belt. I tought it's better to ask help in this topic rather than making a new one. The problem is that my seatbelt wont go back easily and i have to facilitate it or it stays loosely. Problem is that goes between door and car body sometimes. Does anyone now a solution for that? Maybe tighten a spring or whatever is in charce of pulling it back?

PS! Sorry for my bad english. It's been a while using it.

Best solution would probably be to buy a new one. Stripping and trying to repair crucial safety equipment isn't a good idea in my opinion.

As for AlexGSs question I don't think £88 included the fitting I think Jut said it cost him £46 for an hours labour. Not cheap hey! Hey Jut the bloke that bought your megane is selling it, good buy if you like stuck on bonnet vents, peco exhausts, lexus look lights, red seat covers etc, not to my tastes but would suit you, a family mans car with a hint of bad boy, well you've kind of got that with the Stilo Abarth. When you going to lower it, I'll give you a hand with the springs.
