Technical Discussion Thread: Airbag Seat Wiring

2F = 2 Front airbags
2P = 2 Seat Belt Pretensioners (driver + passenger)
2L = 2 Side airbags
2T = 2 Curtain airbags
I = Switch to disable the passenger airbag
S = Front seat passenger detection system (OCS)

C may be Switch to disable rear airbags.

If fitted, there's one curtain airbag each side of the car. It's behind the roof lining above the doors. Each one goes from the front of the front door window to the rear or the rear door/side window.

Hey guys
Can someone post a picture of the wires going into the connector block and out? Trying to try out bypassing the block but the previous guy already removed it so just wanna set if he has connected the right wires back together.

Also, can someone advise me where all the connectors are on the car that could be causing the issue? Only got a Bluetooth OBD and my fiatecuscan doesn't scan the airbag due to incorrect connectors?

Regards
Pete

Amazing thank you so much! Owe you a beer! If I fix it ill defo put up a guide!

Also in terms of OBD connectors.. I have a Bluetooth one which I know can't read airbags however I've got a KKL one coming tomorrow. Does anyone have any idea what I need to modify within the connector for it to read airbags? I've read they need a bit of modification or an adapter but no real explanation as to what is available from what I've found!

FiatECUscan/MultiECUscan can only read data from pin 7 of the OBD connector cable, however data for different modules is on different pins of the car OBD connector as follows:

Pin 1 - ABS
Pin 3 - Airbag
Pin 7 - Engine
Pin 9 - EPS
Pin 12 - Xenon Headlamps

If you only want to read engine data (pin 7) you don't need to do anything to the cable, however, to read airbag data (pin 3) you need to connect pins 3 and 7 of the cable OBD connector together.

You can either open the cable plug and solder a short wire between pins 7 and 3, or buy the adaptor cables available from Gendan here:

http://www.gendan.co.uk/product_FESCBL.html

The adaptor cables will allow you to connect to all of the above modules without having to connect any pins together.

i can vouch for that gendan set... Works perfectly, looks and feels very professional! The actual d shaped casing for the plug is made out of a flexible plastic (although Its still incredibly rigid) to help prevent breakages if dropped... And it doesnt destroy your lead so You can still use it on VAGs should you ever have the misfortune to work on or ever own one

Hey guys

Right - finally got my adaptor through and modified it. Connected to the airbag successfully and removed various errors, one remains

Side airbag (Driver) - short circuit at ground.

Now my thoughts are it could be wired wrongly. The previous owner bypassed the orange block connector on this one and I think may have connected them back wrongly. Would this read a short?

Can someone please post the wire colourings for before & after the block on the drivers side?

Thank you

Regards
