I see the Stilo reveiw in April - May 04 What car says wind noise at speed is a down side on refinement.

Wind noise is a fixable problem that no dealers can be ar$ed to fix!

The biggest issue with the Stilo is tyre noise, because the rest of the car is so quiet! Unless you too have the dodgy door seal (only on one side of course!)

True on wind noise... it can in most cases be sorted with either a change of door rubber trim where most of the wind noises come from.

dunno on the tire one tho... it can come down to what tires have been fitted as standard by Fiat, I have noticed that they do fit different makes and versions of tires a bit randomly, my last one had Goodyear this one has Pirelli and the Pirelli's ( p7000 http://www.pirelli.co.uk/en_GB/tyres/catalog/tyre_product.jhtml?productid=2113&selected=desc ) are damm quiet and on our s**tty roads as well.

2.4 Abarth ( Manual ) Black ... nothing else to say really.

No tyre noise on mine & it only has Dunlop tyres.

I've got dunlops too. Drive along at a steady 70mph on a flat road and tell me you don't hear anything! :) What you do hear is a small amount of wind noise generated by the wing mirrors and the rest is tyre noise! :I

I've found a work round to the door seal wind noise, its not a fix though! In the 3-door if you sit with the seat at its lowest possition and slightly reclined (how i used to site in my cars in the past) your right ear is right next to the bit of crap door seal.

Try this, jack the seat up two notches, ratchet your back rest up a bit, so you are sitting straighter, its weird for the first day or so, but after that you realise that the bad back you were getting is now clearing up, and you can't hear any wind nose! :I

I've got bad wind noise (not from the chicken curries I may add ;)) at 40 mph and upwards coming from my passenger side. The car's going in for it's 24k service on Saturday and I'm going to tryand get Arnold Clark to look at it (sorry to moan on) but they are so bloody bad I don't hold much hope.

This is there last chance If I don't get a first rate service (car cleaned and everything)I'm taking my business to Reg Vardy.

Car cleaned and everything you say, the everything would be driving it up over some grass and splattering the side of the car in grassy crap, and then syphoning a few gallons out of the car! [xx(]

I've checked the milage when i've dropped the car off and the fuel level always drops even though bugger all miles are covered! Unless they just start your car and leave it idling for an hour or so just so you get the impression its had some work done to it 'cos the engine is hot and the interior warm! B)

Aye Stiloboy they truy are sh!te at Arnold Clark. But as I say it's Reg Vardy next if they don't do a good job.

Well mine is in today for a few niggles to be investigated (creaky suspension, fuel sensor fault & wind noise) so will let you know tonight how I got on.

I'm particularly interested in the fuel sensor fault as you may know - I'm still getting it when the fuel is low. Mines goes in on saturday but I still don't think they have the control panel in yet (not that I think this will work though).

Cheers

cmc,

Mine has been diagnosed as an intermittent cluster fault so my dealer is ordering a replacement in. My creaking suspension was due to dry bushes and these have now been greased and all is quiet. Not sure about wind noise - will see what it's like on the trip to Brooklands.

If you want to stop wind noise or most of it on your stilo It's simple! Pull back the front door seal and you will see holes on the door frame in the outer top corner. cover these up with duck tape or similar something that will last. refit trims, roadtest job done. The wind gets trapped in the door and creates noise, same problem with the facelift 188 punto but cure is different If anyone has wind noise on this I will post a cure.

D white can I have an idiots guide to solving it please? Do you mean the holes as you look at the door are in the top left corner? Also how do I pull the seal off here and get it back, is it easy?

Thanks

Purple thanks for the reply.

Are you able to be more specific? What's a cluster fault and what parts are they replacing?

Cheers mate

cmc,

Sadly that was as informative as the garage were yesterday and I had another appointment so couldn't delve any deeper into exactly what is what. I will be getting a call as soon as they have a date for the part so will ask more then...

that would be great if you could. My garage are totally useless and I need all the help I can get (they had to look at it 4 times before they finally conceeded there was a fault!). Then they were clueless as to what it was and are guessing it may be the control panel.

So if I could get them to check something specific it would be a big help (and save me countless other visits!)

Cheers

Hornet, No Problem.

1. Open Offending door
2. Open window
3. Look at the top corner, the outer seal there will be a small plug that needs to be removed. In my experience it is easier to work rubber around it and do the same to replace.
4. Pull back rubber about 12 inches from corner, and the same with the inner seal(the one that the window slides up against)
5. You should now see the holes in the frame in the corner there is a tringle shaped hole. cover them all up.
6. Refit the trims

This should do it. I have performed this on a number of stilo's and had no comebacks. Some really fussy customers in there as well!

Cheers D.white I shall have a go over the weekend.

Stoneacre checked the fuel sensor while they had it in and it checked out fine and hence the diagnosis of a cluster fault. This could be backed up by the other spurious messages I've been getting of late (ASR Failure, Loose Connection).

Hopefully the new cluster will solve these problems but I'll be straight back if it doesn't.
