OK - I've seen one and I'm seriously tempted as it's the right price-ish. Doesn't have the skyroof though :(
Anyone got one of the last UK Multijet 150 3 doors?
What they like compared to standard 115s?
Second - if you have a 150 bhp from the factory..... how many more could you get from an ECU tweak or three???

I dunno why, I just suddenly see £14+k of high/well specification car on a 56/07 plate for sale at less than £10K as(potentially) remarkably good value...... despite all the hassles I've had with my own JTD.

My bro has just sold his, it looks like a Schumi and was amazing. The electronics system has been redesigned (our theory being it is a test bed for the Bravo), and the quality of the interior is much better - alcantara seats were gorgeous. Having only travelled 100 miles it's fair to say the engine wasn't tested out properly, but from what my bro tells me, it's the best diesel he's had (and he gets a new diesel company car every 6 months!).

Hi guys,

Sorry for the delay in posting on this one, I’ve been away on a training course for a couple of days - just got back.

I was in exactly the same position last October time when I first saw the MJET 150. I’d always liked the Stilo and I had fancied trying a diesel for a change. Just one test drive convinced me to swap and at just under £11k brand new, I felt I was getting a lot of car for the money.

In my opinion, even in its standard un-modified form the car is fantastic. Its well put together, no rattles or squeaks and the materials generally feel very good. My previous car was a 147 1.6 twin spark, and to me the difference between the two in terms of power and usable torque was tremendous and had my 147 ‘pulled’ like the Stilo I probably wouldn’t have sold it.

After lots of deliberation I had it remapped last December, which took it from 150 to approx 185 - although this hasn’t been verified on a rolling road or anything. The remap made significant improvement in many areas - an obvious increase in power and torque - but in addition the car somehow feels smoother to drive and fuel economy has also improved by about 4-5 mpg overall.

I don’t really use the benefits remap that much, if that makes sense? I had it done to unlock its potential more than anything else, and of all the ‘plusses’ I’ve probably appreciated the increase in fuel economy the most.

The only problem I have encountered has been very recently where I’ve experienced what I think may be a little clutch slip when I’ve tried to accelerate quite hard in a high gear. I’m keeping my eye on this one to see if it was a one off or not and then take it from there.

There have been a few other teething problems - loose bits of exterior trim and a BCU that’s been replaced under warranty as it wasn’t shutting down properly and draining the battery over a week or so. Other than that, its never missed a beat.

If I knew last October what I know now, would I have still bought the Stilo?

Yes - I thinks its great, a load of car for the money. I’ve not looked into this, but I suspect you’d probably pay and extra £5k at least for an equivalent Golf - but I suppose it depends what price you put on anonymity!

sounds good. was tempted with the 150 but the insurance group put me off as the 115 is grp 5 ins. wish i had got a goute for the 150 now tho. when you planing to get it on a rolling road then?

sounds like the 115 can be mapped to a similar potentail to the mapped 150 but guess it is under more strain!

Hi all,

A couple of points I forgot to add in the last post - sorry!

1. I understand that the 150 can now be remapped even higher - around or just over the 200 mark, but I'm personally not interested in that as I cant help but think its got to be on the edge?

2. As for the possible clutch slip on mine, I don't know if thats as a result of the remap or not. Logic would suggest that it would be, but as I stated earlier, Ive not really made a great deal of use of the additional power - so it may be an existing problem with the clutch itself. I do need to carry out a few more tests as the guys on the forum have suggested before I can come to any real conclusion on this though.

3. If you are looking to have a remap carried out, I'd certainly try and put away the cash to have the suspension uprated as well. The main thing I miss about the 147 was the pin sharp handling - the Stilo does feel like its rolling a bit too much on he bends for me.

I still think its a fab car though and wouldn't be without it - and with the help and support you get from all on the forum ownership has an added bonus! (y)

Ours is running on the theoretical maximum map - approximately 205 bhp ~ 308 lb/ft torque.
So far we've had no problems with the car other than the clutch slip in 5th/6th gear as described above. This was expected, and it's easy to adjust your driving style to avoid it happening. It's also occuring with the Vauxhall boys with their remapped Astra's - many of those have covered 1000's of miles with no (worsening) clutch issues.

Bear in mind this is the same engine/transmission unit fitted to the Thurlby Motors' Astra 1.9 SRi 888 (of which 100 limted-edition cars have been made).
These leave Thurlby with a switchable map (the 'top' one being 200bhp and 330 lb/ft), so evidently even more is possible on the Stilo if someone will make a better clutch for it (y)

We also went for the Eibach springs - with the extra power and torque on tap it's really needed. It transforms the handling and controls the body roll.

Brakes seem to be OK with the extra power but are next in line for an upgrade.

The car is completely mental to drive, a real hooligan mobile - and represents superb value for money. We paid £10,600 last year brand new.

Economy always sits around the 50 mpg mark, +/- 3 mpg, even when booting it. Drive like a granny and you'll see 60 mpg.

I can't sing the praises enough for this car, if you can find one, buy it, remap it, fit the Eibachs, drive it, SMILE :)
You won't regret it - I know we haven't :D :D :D

Cool - and cheers for the info, what I needed to read (y)

Major spy though - did the Sporting ever come with the Skyroof? Now that I've got a Stilo with I'd be loathe to have one without :(

Will I have to throw all my toys out of the pram?

Well if it's any consolation the air conditioning in our car is fab (y)

I've never really been a great fan of sunroofs, always seemed like something else to go wrong, particularly the Stilo one with it's multiple glass panels - and maybe it reduces the overall rigidity of the body? I have no evidence to back up that theory up though :p

Oh and according to the brochure, the skyroof was available as an option - but since the 150 bhp model only had a short production run, I doubt very much many people took up the option :( :( :(#
