As an Italian I can say the correct pronunciation is:

Steelo.

The lo is pronounced as lo not low if you know what I mean.

Well! I have something to add to this thread

Today two separate individuals referred to my car as a stil-o, that is, like 'stiletto' without the 'ett'.

So it would seem there is a third way. Though, I stick with 'Stee-lo' myself.
